Video games that you loved but ohers hater or neglected?

What Captain Amazing said. I think a person who dislikes RTS games might like it because it cuts all the micromanagement out. You make all the big decisions; the Sims (for lack of a better word) make the small ones.

While this worked perfectly on paper and I waited the game like crazy, it was a huge disappointment for me. I can’t quite explain how, but at least it got something to do with a fact that game couldn’t decide whether it was tongue-in-cheek or more serious story. The city and vehicles etc. was anyway great. I really hope someone would buy the copyrights and make a bit more serious version of that. But still maintaining possibility to run over nazis with your vintage sportscar.

If **clairobscur **wants to see how this works in practice, there’s an ongoing Let’s Play of the game over at SomethingAwful (personally, while the premise seemed interesting in practice and looking at the LP it’s probably not my thang)

Nobody remembers Arx Fatalis - it was hugely overshadowed by the similar-looking Morrowind - but it was a terrific, tight, atmospheric RPG that was unfairly neglected. Less open-ended than the latter, but it had this great claustrophobic feel to it. The “tracing runes” magic system made sense, even if it was often frustrating in the heat of battle - basically you had to walk in with the hand movements for your best spells memorised, or you were going down - but best of all was that you had to prepare for missions: you weren’t going to just find food, potions, weapons or magic , so you had to put in time making or organising what you needed, including learning the spells before you set out, or you’d get your arse kicked by some toerag sorcerer who’d done his homework. It was hugely immersive, and it would have made a killer online game against other players…

I’ve been wanting to play this game for sooo long ! It really looks like a killer atmosphere and gameplay system. Yet every time I try I play five minutes and let it go. I’m not sure why 3D graphics age so much worse than sprites or isometric, but I just can’t bring mystelf to play something so fugly without a thick cushion of nostalgia to soften the blow :(.

I said before, but Summoner 2 (on the PS2) was a great game that. It was probably largely ignored as in order to accommodate the much better graphics and game engine than the 1st game the levels were much more compact and the party size was smaller and it was more linear. And even worse for the RPG purists is that you had full-control over the characters in combat (unlike the 1st game).

It was a brilliant combination of an RPG and a slash-em up and had superb graphics, game mechanics and character design made combat very enjoyable. The compact levels were very well-designed and the plot very well-written. I would rate this as one of the best games on the PS2.

It is quite brown.

I like SimCity 2013.

Okay, you don’t “play a city builder” so much as “engage with the Glassbox engine”, but I find it fun and relaxing. And the game is very pretty.

I can’t figure out why they didn’t take the Freedom Force formula and bring it to other settings, the obvious one being fantasy. When I first played it I was wondering how the hell it hadn’t been done earlier. Such a no-brainer game concept.
