I’ve always wanted a pair of video goggles. Rememer Lawnmower man? The movie was crap but I thought the technology was the coolest shit in the world.
I’m not that much interested in the “VR” aspect of it. I’m happy with just having a nice set of video goggles I can wear while laying on the sofa. It’d be cool if they were optimized for VGA or USB output (so I can hook it right into my lappy).
Last time I tried on a pair, the image was flickery and it kind of game a headache. The label said it was like watching a 60" screen but it sure didn’t fee like that.
I used to read the reviews to see what’s new, but I haven’t checked in a while. Anyone have a set? Are you happy with it? What’s the price range of a decent set nowadays?
Talk about name branding - I seriously thought this was some new app from Google!
Don’t have a set of video goggles, but know that a few co-workers went to the big electronics convention here in Las Vegas about three years ago and tried them out. They were all impressed with the better quality - I don’t think the ones that they tried were on the market yet, but the suggested retail list price for the different models they tried were from about $180 to $300.
One guy said it felt like he was in the third row of a movie theater, and another said he thought it was like standing inside of a video game. Neither complained of headaches or anything - but then again, I think they only got to try them out for a very short time.
It’s been some time since I tried some at a trade show. Not all that high res by today’s standards but they knocked my socks off. It was just great. I am surprised that they aren’t commonplace.
