Video recording software recs

As is written in stone and metal, I call upon the power of the Dope hivemind.

I want to make a series of simple educational videos. I intend to record short lectures on a webcam and splice in images (and maybe simple animations, Zero Punctuation style) where appropriate.

The files will be uploaded to YouTube, so I’d like whatever I use to have decent encoding (is that even a concern these days?).

I am using Windows.

I don’t mind spending a little money if thirty bucks will provide a noticeable uptick in convenience and quality, but I’m not looking to pick up a copy of Premiere. Thanks!

Do you have any previous experience of video editing?

If you’re prepared for a sharpish learning curve to a very nice, professional-grade, but free product, Davinci Resolve is worth a look

If you don’t mind forking out a small amount of money, and want something that’s a little more consumer-grade, Cyberlink Powerdirector has an entry-level package that is quite capable, and includes everything you need to produce decent video. I use it for my video content on YouTube.

Animation is a different set of skills altogether, requiring a different set of tools.
