Video shows police handcuffing 5-year-old

I’m stunned by the hatred and hostility being expressed towards a five year old girl. What the fuck is wrong with you people?

Bending a five-year old over a desk and handcuffing her is fucking grotesque. I have a five year old daughter. The thought of anyone laying hands like that infuriates me.

I hope the mother sues the ever loving fuck out of those child abusing swine and I hope they all get fired.

Five year olds are babies. You don’t handcuff babies.

You’re an idiot.

Yeah, I’m an idiot because I don’t hate five year old girls. Go fuck yourself, dickbag.

So what methods do you propose that police should use to immobilize children?

Do you have any idea how unreasonable you appear right now? Have you been drinking or something?

Who said anything about hating this five year old girl? I guess I don’t understand this style of debate. Disagree with someone + take it to the extreme limit = your side is right?

You’re reaction is on par with an out of control five year old. Why not take it down about twenty or so levels and explain how you feel the teacher should have handled the situations instead of foaming at the mouth about suing everyone in sight?

Seriously, how should this have played out in your eyes. Please keep in the realm of possible though okay? The teacher obviously isn’t able to physically restrain her (you hear people say over and over in the video that you can’t touch her), her parent is unwilling to come and assist the school, and the teacher is there to >gasp< teach all of the students, not babysit a child who is a danger to herself and the other students. The child was NOT responding to the rational explanations (You may not touch me, you don’t have a right to do that, stop, no!, sit down, do not do that, etc etc) and she showed willful disregard for her own safety, the property of others, the safety of the staff, or the rights of the other students to be taught. What you DID see is her little ass grabbing a seat with a quickness when she saw the police show up. This appears to be what got her attention.

It’s a terrible situation that a child of her age was handcuffed and taken away. What’s worse is that they’re damned if they do and damned if they don’t. If they let her run wild and she hurt herself they’d be sued for that, if she hurt another student they’d be sued as well. The place to START the hunt for answers is in her home. Apparently the only answer offered by the person responsible for her is “let’s sue!.”

In the case of a five year old…none. The police had no business being called at all. There are methods of dealing with these kinds of behaviors that do not require treating them as criminals. There are physical restraints that are non-injurious and effective and do not require three cops muscling a toddler over a desk.

It’s a dick! It’s a bag! It’s an ineffectively cobbled-together, meaningless insult!

Yawn.

No one hates the little girl, penis-satchel. Nor do we pretend, on the other hand, that putting handcuffs on her (they were removed after she was placed in the patrol car) is grotesque. What an idiotic thing to say. Perhaps a little physically harmless negative reinforcement will help to remind her in the future that there are consequences for bad behavior in class. She’s bound to learn that lesson at some point in the future by similarly serious, uniformed men anyway, judging by the way she seems to be going. Better a little relatively gentle remonstrance now than a face full of mace or worse down the road.

And perhaps, in a sane world, the teacher would have had the right to remove her from the classroom and not cost the rest of the kids valuable class time by EVACUATING THE WHOLE FUCKING PLACE. God, schools have changed. How the hell does anything get, y’know, taught?

And in conclusion, you’re not only an idiot, you’re a testicleburger! Devastating!

So what are these restraints?

They’re called handcuffs.

I don’t drink, so cram youir smug insinuations up your ass. I’m pissed because I am a parent of a five year old girl and the expressions of hostility - even a willingness to do violence - to a five year old girl tend to rub me the wrong way.

Have you actually read the fucking thread? Take a look:

Remember, this is a 5 year old girl!, who people are calling a “brat” and a “vile little idiot” who they want to “hurt” and “slam her head into a dek” and “whoop her ass.”

Maybe you should try reading the whole thread before you start offering supercillious critiques to my response.

I’ve been ther and done this, You make sure no other kids are in the way and you let the tantrum take its course. If necessary you can call the parents and if it’s necessary to prevent physical injury to herself or other children there are physical restraints can be use. The assertions that teachers can’t use restraints are false, by the way.

So what did you mean when you said you wanted to “hurt” this “vile little idiot?” Is that an expression of affection and understanding that I’m not familiar with?

Yes there are. I used to work as a psych tech working with children and I was trained to use them. Guess what? The teacher can’t legally use them.

ANd if you saw a video of a child being restrained using those techniques, you would think the handcuffs were peachy. Kids scream around and thrash like you are killing them, even though you arent hurting them at all.

and we were tought to use AT LEAST three people if at all possible, because that lessens the chance of injuring the child.

Handcuffs are uncomfortable, but are not injurious. They did the best they could under the circumstances. You wanna blame someone, blame the mother.

They’re physical holds. It’s kind of hard to show you in a text format.

Depends on where you live. Most places now have a you cant touch the child rule.

That AP should be nominated for sainthood, imo. I’d have lost my shit about 5 minutes in. This is why I will never work in a child-related field.

Guess what? You’re wrong. Yes they can. I was trained to do it myself when I worked in schools with EBD children.

I’ve used the restraint myself, so save it.

Well maybe it’s a state thing then. I worked with kids in Minnesota in both school and non-school settings.

It takes a differant sort. a normal day for me used to involve having chairs thrown at my head, being spit on, assaulted. When its mental illness, you just cant take it personally. When its lack of parenting, its harder still. I never lost my temper with a kid, but I was tempted to hunt down some of their parents…

I know you’re aware that different places have different laws, and what is legally allowed in one place might not be legally allowed in another.

BD schools are a whole 'nother ball of wax too. I went to a BD high school, and what was allowed to restrain kids if necessary there would never have flown at the regular high school, and that was 15+ years ago…I can’t imagine things have gotten laxer since.

Forgot bout this…

None of those cops had received or were employing those techniques, though, were they?
