video slot machine question

ok, i live in san antonio, texas.

other that horse and dog racing as well as the lottery formalized gambling is pretty much illegal except on the indian reservation.

but a local convenience store just opened this set up terminals where if you make a “donation” you get credits. no problem so far.

but if you win you get cash. i mean real cash. i popped in 5 bucks the other day while getting a pack of smokes and just kind of went on a tear. i cashed out 130 buckers.

i swear, dead presidents, folding money. i was thinking i would get a cake or something but this absolutely floored me.

how in the world is this legal in texas?

It probably isn’t. I have seen several times where bars would have a poker machine “for entertainment purposes only” but if you were one of the regulars they knew…eventually they would be willing to cash out your credits for you if you won.

When I lived in Memphis, a lot of the seedier bars had video slots or “fruit machines” which were illegal. You put in the money, and cash out the credits. I used to see people play that for hours on end. I even played them sometimes.

When you got tired of the game, you tell the bartender or boss, they tally up ones credits and pay you by how many credits that you have.

This is all illegal, can’t make money that way.

Don’t know about the laws in any of the cheesless 49. But in Wisconsin if establishments have 5 or fewer gambling machines it is a civil offense. 6 or more is a crime.

Guess how many you’ll find in most bars that have them. C’mon, guess.

The civil offense fine is such that it’s worth the risk [$500]. Not that the law is being strictly enforced in most places anyway.
