I have a lot of videos on my iPod, but I don’t want my iPod to be full, which it’s getting close to being. Is there anyway I can keep videos in my iTunes library, and put them onto the iPod at will? Also, is there any way to increase disk space on the iPod?
Hopefully someone else will come along and make this clearer than I can (since I’m away from my Mac).
You should be able to go to the device properties for your iPod in iTunes and uncheck the checkbox that says “Sync my entire library with this iPod”
You will then be able to use playlists to choose exactly which songs and videos are synchronized to your iPod.
There is no way to increase the hard drive side—they want you to buy a new iPod!
Set up your iPod to sync manually. Instead of everything in your library copying to your iPod automatically, you will have to manually drag stuff from the library and drop it onto your iPod.
For me, I have an 8gig Touch but have way more music and videos than that.
When you plug the iPod in and it opens up iTunes, you should see that page that says “Captain Socks iPod” and show you your software version and options and how much space you have left.
Under Options I have checked “Sync only checked songs and videos”
So in my huge library of music I did have to go through and check what songs I wanted on there, but changing songs just means unchecking stuff I no longer want and checking anything I want on there next time I sync.
Then up top when your iPod is connected there are all those tabs. If you’re encoding your stuff yourself it will probably all be under movies regardless if its movies or TV, at least mine is. All the videos I’ve uploaded into iTunes are available under this tab, and I just check what I want to be on the iPod then hit “Sync” and it will take off what I’ve unchecked and add what I’ve checked.
Hopefully that makes sense and works for you - it is at least how mine works.
Not quite what you wanted but you can use
VirtualDub

To resize your videos with various qualities. They are free programs and work great. They don’t come with a lot of documentation but it only takes about an hour to get the hang of using them
