iTunes Question

(I am using MacOS.)

I have finally downloaded a bit of software that allows me to download videos from YouTube. How can I move these MP4s to my iPod?

I know my glass-fronted iPod plays videos, I bought a couple of music videos years ago. But now I cannot remember where the heck the content folder is for videos.

Or perhaps what I am proposing is non-Kosher? If so, Mods please feel free to lock the thread.

Click ‘File’ => ‘Add File(s) to Library’ then browse to your video files.
Click on ‘Movies’ under the Library heading in the top right corner of iTunes.
Check the box beside the desired videos then Sync your iPod.

Hey, I think that worked! Great!

OK so now where is it on the iPod? It is not under ‘videos’

As far as I remember, all of the content on an iPod is in a hidden directory. Googling will reveal the incantations needed to display them.

Humm, remember when Bill Gates was the evil one?

I think that if they didn’t appear under the ‘movies’ menu in the ipod, then they weren’t transferred correctly. Try going under the ipod sync settings, movies, and make sure that there’s an option checked to sync movies - I think you can either turn on ‘sync all checked movies’, or seperately check off certain ones right in the sync setup.

I don’t have my own itunes available here, or I’d try to give you more specific instructions. Good luck!

Yes, you can get some video formats into iTunes that will not transfer to an iPad or iPod. The devices like .mp4, m4v and similar, not .wmv etc.

Handbrake is a popular tool for converting video to iPod friendly formats.

Well it is an MP4, and it appears on the iPod when I plug it into the computer, it is there.

Somehow I simply cannot find the fool thing on the iPod when using the on-board software. It seems simple, but impossible too.

Hmm - wilder notion then, have you checked the mp4 resolution? If the video isn’t the right size, (320*240 i think,) then the ipod might not even display it. Though you’d think Itunes would check that before transferring.

Also - did you check under ‘tv shows’ just in case it ended up there?

Assuming not an iPod Touch:
iPod Settings Menu->General->Main Menu->Videos (Video Playlists Movies TV Shows Music Vids Rentals)

Are the correct items checked?

On an iPod Touch:
Click the front surface button to get to the search page.
Type in a word from the title of your clip.
It should show up in search results.

OK… type slowly, I am feeling stupid … IPod touch, I smash the Big Round ButtonI see no Search Page. Now what?

Odd. The keyboard should come up…

You know you can switch pages on the main sscreen by swiping left or right?
Turn the thing on, get to the a page w icons on it, swipe from left to right until the keyboard pops up.
That’s the search page.

Type in a bit of the title to your vid there.
The resulting icon is ‘touchable’ (used to say clickable, but that’s wrong here).

ETA -Perhaps you clicked the button too long? Just a quick push’ll do. If you hold it down too long you’ll end up in voice command mode.

Oh, I sort of remember the keyboard thing. I got to it and typed in NASA, which is part of the file name, and got nothing.

Only thing to do is go to dinner. I hope you folks can help me even more a bit later. Many thanks to you all.

What is the software?

“MovieSherlock,” you have to pay for it, but it works pretty well. No complaints at all, I suspect the issues I have now are more iPod and iTunes related.

You don’t need any software. Just go to keepvid.com, enter the url of the Youtube clip you want to save into the url bar, and hit download.

It’s happened to me that I downloaded a video from YouTube, and imported it into iTunes, but the video would not be transferrable to an iPod. I’m not sure how the software decides that. If you include that video in the list of things to transfer to the iPod, then you will usually see a message saying “this element cannot be transferred to the iPod”, but the dialog box has a “don’t show me this warning again” checkbox IIRC.

You can browse what is on your iPod using iTunes. If the iPod shows up in itunes, one series of screens shows you what you plan on sychronizing with the iPod, but if you click on the error next to the iPod icon in the left navigation bar, you can browse through the files that are on the iPod right now.

YouTube Downloader is free and works well. Place url of youtube video in the source line and it downloads it.

It will also convert to different formats as well.

Pretty slick and free download on CNET.COM

Thank you all
