Question in the thread title. And, of course, I’m only asking about videos that are not subject to copyright restrictions.
What kind of iPod? My iTouch has a direct link to YouTube.
there are programs that will make downloadable files from youtube, an example garnered from 0.5 seconds of googling is NameBright - Domain Expired
From there, you need an ipod video creator, of which there are many as well
http://www.videora.com/en-us/Converter/iPod/
or koyotesoft.com (which I think can work with the flvs that the very first link generates).
I’m not personally familiar with any of these applications because I’m a mac user but what you’re asking for can definitely be accomplished and the quality should be fine because you’re trying to play it back on a small screen.
You can save a youtube video as an .flv (Flash) file from Safari by:
- Watching the video in Safari
- Going to the “Activity” window (under the “Window” menu)
3 Double-clicking on the video item (you can tell by the size - it should be much bigger than the other items)
The file will download to your default download location. You can convert it with your favorite utility.
So what would you use? I’m a Mac user too.
I have used vixy.net with some success.
I personally use VideoGet. It downloads and converts the video automatically into iPod format
On my Mac, I use a combination of the free Fast Video Download for Firefox (a nice little icon on the status bar that helps to download any Flash video) and ViddyUp to convert the downloaded FLV video file - it costs around $10, but it has a lot of great iPod-centric features, including the ability to crop and take a snapshot for displaying on your iPod.
And then what do you do?
How do I get it from Videoget on to my ipod?
This application works well but it’s not free:
