I’m thinking about getting a camcorder, and what I’m looking for is some software that will let me view the video in slow motion, as well as frame by frame. It doesn’t have to have editing functionality, because I won’t be doing any editing (at least not at this point in time).
What software is good for this? I could spend the money for Pinnacle’s Studio Plus 10.5 Titanium Edition, but I don’t really need the editing features, and I didn’t see anything about it being able to show video frame by frame. Besides, if I need it, I can always get it later.
Would I even need to get additional software for this, or is this something the camcorder would come with?
Any suggestions are appreciated. Freeware is nice, but not a necessity. I don’t mind buying the software if I need to.
windows comes with a movie editor “movie maker” that you can easily use to make your clips into super slow mo even frame by frame.
drop in the clip you want to edit (into the time line) and just keep using the slow by 1/2 effect, 3-4 times should get you frame by frame or at least very close.
I dont know if thats what you are after, it does require you to edit the film not just watch it but its not hard.
There’s a piece of software called “VirtualDub” that will let you do what you want and more. It is free and open source. VirtualDub
To be precise:
[ul]
[li]For frame by frame playback: << and >> buttons advance the video one frame at a time. As do the left and right buttons on your keyboard. [/li][li]For slow motion: In the Video menu choose “Frame Rate”, pick a new frame rate, play. You can save it as slow motion as well if you want.[/li][/ul]
It is a very powerful piece of software and not too complicated.
