Here is a performance of Gallo’s song Was at the Fuji Rock Festival in 2003. What’s your opinion of it? Good, bad, boring, etc?

I think it’s beautiful in its simplicity. I could listen to music like that forever. It proves that you don’t need to have a lot of flashy stuff in a song for it to sound good, that even a very repetitive chord and rhythm structure can be made good by a nice sounding melody. Is he playing a Mellotron, by the way?

I gave it two listens and while I like the melody, the guitar grated on my nerves very quickly. I don’t mind a bit of repetition, but that was taken to the extreme. What did he play? Two chords?

Unfortunately, while you felt the melody picked up the repetitive rhythm, I felt the rhythm ruined the melody.
