I know that it was buried a bit on the first page of replies, but still… :smack:
That’s also already been mentioned, more than once. ![]()

For what it’s worth, by the way, I’ve tried mayonnaise on fries, and didn’t think it worked well at all. To each their own, though.
Then again, when I was a kid, when we went to Wendy’s I loved fries dipped in Frosty. Which is probably as repulsive as it sounds, but I prefer to keep my childhood memories intact by not trying it again.
We missed you, Spoons. The malt vinegar was particularly malty. (And our server only brought malt vinegar. He said he only brings white vinegar if the customer specifically asks for it.)
Let’s see, two hours to Lethbridge to pick Spoons up, six hours to Regina for proper fish and chips and beer…

I think we need a PrairieDope. Fine beers, of course, but also fish and chips–with malt vinegar, naturally!
Great. Now I’m hungry for fish and chips and malt vinegar and beer; and nothing like that in the fridge. I’ll hit Safeway tomorrow…
I’m sorry, but having had the fish and chips in the Prairies, you need to keep driving until you hit the Atlantic.

+1

Beer Bros hadn’t opened yet when you and Jim came through, or else Mrs Piper and I would have taken you there.

pfft. As always, you need the locals to take you to the right place. Of course, the frozen wedge fish and frozen chips that you find in most places are despicable. But when you know where, there’s luvely stuff available here.
Flown in frozen from places along the atlantic where you can get it fresh off the boat.
Prairiedope! Seriously, we have to do that this summer. Do you think we could convince Gorsnak to head on down from Saskatoon?

Still better than the trucks along Highway 1 that put out a sign: “Fresh Fish and Shrimp.” Ummm … if you’re digging around in the loose pile of ice in the back of your pickup for some fish or shrimp for me to buy, then I don’t think I want to buy at all.
Good seafood is available on the Prairies, but you have to know where to go. I’ll trust Northern Piper in these matters in his city.
Wait, are you saying I shouldn’t buy my shrimp from the back of a truck in a Wal-Mart parking lot?
Vinegar = win.
For the ketchup enthusiasts, Heinz ketchup is pretty much just tomato paste & vinegar (and corn syrup. Can’t forget the corn syrup!)
If Stepdad doesn’t want vinegar in presence then -he- can take himself off to the kiddie table.

Probably not a good idea, is all I’m saying.
I LOVE malt vinegar and salt on fries! Tried the fish & chips while living in England and swooned, never to go back!! The vinegar helps the salt stick to the fries. Couldn’t go back to plain potato chips after that either. I used to eat the Lays Salt-n-Vinegar chips until the skin peeled off the inside of my mouth (had to give it up - bad for the blood pressure and I never knew when to stop!).
But your stepdad is being extremely rude making comments about what other people are eating! I guess all you can do, if you can’t avoid him completely at mealtimes, is to ignore him as best you can.
I prefer a vinaigrette myself. Or the vinegar that black olives come in. But not plain vinagre, and very rarely ketchup. As for the other types of vinegars, I’ve never tried them.

It’s not that bad, but it tastes better with a little pepper. Really, they’re chicken nuggets dipped in Frosty is about right.
I like Malt Vinegar and finely ground Kosher Salt with fresh cut , skin on, Michigan Potato fries.
Tarragon Vinegar also goes really well.
Let me just add a couple totally unnecessary +1’s to points raised in this thread.
– Vinegar on fries is aweseome. Especially malt vinegar.
– Depite being clear, white vinegar is called “White Vinegar” everywhere in North America that I’m aware of. I like to believe that the people at Heinz know their shit, and that’s how they label it, too.
– As Chronos said, white vinegar is a cleaning product. Not food. Try something with flavor!
