Vintage commercials

Eh?

That Surfer one is good, but from what I remember from my SoCal surfing days (longboards made of balsa), and watching them today, you do not sit on the beach waiting for a big wave, you paddle out and sit on your board.

You want an earworm? I can still hum the tune to the '86 Taurus jingle some 35 years later. Tauuuuuurus for us!

Hehehe, I love it. Never saw it before, because Rainier wasn’t sold here back then.

Here’s a Miller commercial that I could recite verbatim when I was young.

Anybody mention the Enjoli perfume commercial yet? I think even youngs who don’t know what it’s actually from know this verse of the theme song (I forgot this verse in the commercial was actually the second verse of a longer song):

I can bring home the bacon
(Enjoli)
Fry it up in a pan
(Enjoli)
And never never never let you forget you’re a man!

Cause I’m a wooooman
(Enjoli)

It’s Cal Worthington, and his dog, Spot!

Winston ciggie commercial starring The Flintstones.

On the one hand, I feel sorry for Ann Miller, her entire career in musicals reduced to shilling soup.

On the other hand, umpty-years removed from the time of the commercial, it’s kinda clever.

Who can forget Don’s Guns? The greatest commercial you’ve never seen! (SPOILER ALERT: it’s all about the tagline.)

"I don’t wanna make any money, folks… I just LOVE to sell guns! Ha ha ha ha ha!

I think it’s probably just coincidence that he looks exactly like Old Scratch.

Weird. I remember the commercial (for Enjoli perfume, featuring the song with the line “I can bring home the bacon”) but didn’t remember the product name at all. Was this thing parodied, perhaps on Carol Burnett’s show? Perhaps that’s where I’m remembering it.

Yeah, it’s been parodied or referenced many different times, many different ways. I wouldn’t be at all surprised if the Carol Burnett show did a parody of it.

I can guarantee you every Englishman of a certain age can repeat this advert verbatim (in a scouse accent):

I loved this commercial for the Caramilk candy bar as a kid. Always gave me the chills!

There’s also Roberto Alomar shilling for McCain Fruit Punch.

Since that video appears to have been removed, here’s another one.

Burnett did a fairly devastating parody of Rula Lenska’s Alberto VO5 commercials.

This jingle was based on the song “I’m a Woman” by Leiber and Stoller, first recorded by Christine Kittrell:

This version by Peggy Lee is more similar to the commercial:

Interesting, did not know that, or if I ever did I since forgot, thanks!

Probably not all that vintage, but here’s a Pepsi commercial with A-Rod and the Angels’ Vlad Gutierrez.

Speaking of soft drinks, in the '70s, Canada Dry ginger ale ran a campaign based on the premise that “it’s not too sweet,” which featured various actors and celebrities known for not being particularly sweet, as well.

I remember hearing this ad for Xerox only ran once (I can’t find any citation to confirm this)-- but everyone seemed to remember it.

Edit: Ack? I’ll have to figure out how to post a preview! Sorry!
