Viral Videos Dubbed by Geeks?

Example of What I’m Talking About

The above link features the infamous the Rick Ashley song synced to Obama speaking each one of the lyrics (by cutting up many speeches and dubbing together). How would one go about achieving this effect? Is there any method more clever than collecting a large number of transcriptions, searching for each word, finding the corresponding 1-second of video and repeating the process for a whole song? Does that not sound incredibly time consuming?

How are these types of videos made?

My guess: in just the manner you described, by people who have way too much free time on their hands.

Mostly people just do what you describe, you underestimate the amount of free time people are willing to spend for a tiny scrap of E-Cred.

Also, that video wasn’t made too well, especially comparatively. Try Bush’s Sunday Bloody Sunday.

Now THAT takes free time (and a lot of skill, presumably).

Edit: Also, it’s Rick Astley! (if that was a typo I apologize)
