Virus scan over LAN?

Howdy folks,
I just htought I’d toss the question out here and see if I got any nibbles. To-the-point… wanted to know if I could save some cash and scan multiple computer with the same paid-for virus scan app. Say like Norton or …Norton, lol (hate the Mc-virus competitor) See, I ju-st got around to messing with my 2003 bought Internet security …(it stopped being, mmm worth the space for about 4 months of it’s life) finally when i got a nasty Lucomserver_2_5 thingy I got mad at Norton (have to blame some-one  ) After waiting 30 minutes on hold to another Indian over-taker of “our” former tech-support jobs (ignore this part) he tells me I can re-download it again for an additional $7 (oh great i thought, not so bad)… for one day… LOL… yeah, see i bought this on the 29th of 2003- see there… but, he adds, “if you d-o go ahead and purchase this service then you can renew your copy for a mere $40 dollars, instead of our regular $60 dollar retail price” umm, sure thing guy… let me go consult my money tree…

Anyway, my wife has Norton on her laptop and is connected to our home-based LAN via the wireless “g” hub… thought maybe I could give my poor computer a second wind without rolling back the save-point on it and losing what I don’t know I’ve saved on there since the last save-point… does anyone understand this besides me? It is the New Year, I’m drinking accordingly > hic < hehe…

You might be able to make some network scan partially work but it is not worth in IMHO. Why don’t you just download a reputable, free, antivirus package like AVG. It works great for most people.

I use Norton AV ver. 5.0 for scans all the time across mounted network volumes. But be warned, that many checks such as memory and boot sector checks cannot be performed. I consider it “quick and dirty.” But I also use multiple products as well for better malware protection.

You can map drives of other computers and scan them over the LAN but the other PC email won’t be scanned. You want to catch this stuff before it gets on a drive. :)I’d try one of the free ones like shagnasty suggested.
