The great-grandpappy of these, and one that I cannot imagine will ever will be equalled in its irony, was when they used Janis Joplin’s “Lord Won’t You Buy Me a Mercedes Benz” in a Mercedes commercial.

As I recall hearing it explained he continued to use it in those instances when he could. I suppose that means at rallies which weren’t aired.
