The White House says the stuff in quotes, and if it’s true, then this is a battle to save Western civilization. If we lose in Iraq, then the terrorists win.
So where are the lines of Young Republicans and right-wing bloggers signing up at Army recruitment stations to fight the battle to save the West?
Nope, you wingnuts don’t believe Bush either. Thought so.
I’m confused. I’m pretty sure that Admiral Fallon said that failure is not an option. I know it’s true because Fox News (We Distort, You Deride) told me so.
First of all, a whole bunch of right-wing bloggers are either already in the military, or have joined up, or are now embedded in Iraq. For example, Bill Roggio, or Bill Ardolino, or Michelle Malkin, or Michael Yon. And of course, some of them are actual Iraqis who have always lived there. Would you like me to go on? How many do you need before we can declare your argument to be complete bullshit?
Second, this is a stupid argument. Really, really stupid. If you support humanitarian aid to Africa, how come you aren’t there? Are you chicken?
God knows there are reasonable debates to be had about Iraq and the War on Terror. The ‘chickenhawk’ argument isn’t one of them. Neither is the argument that if you don’t have kids you don’t have a right to an opinion.
BTW, my best friend is 41, working on a Ph.D, and he just signed up with the armed forces. One of the reasons your argument is so incredibly stupid is because its unfalsifiable. You don’t care how many supporters of the war ARE signing up, because if you’re debating one that didn’t, you still get to throw this weak-assed, nasty accusation in his face.
Frankly, you’ve been losing my respect for a long time, and it’s mostly because you are moving away from the more intelligent arguments you used to offer, and engaging more and more in his kind of weak ad-hominem crap. You can do better - I’ve seen it. Just not for a long time.
Repeat stupid catch phrases ! Now there’s a plan !
We shouldn’t have gone there in the first place, and we should leave because we are incapable of doing anything there but harm, to them ( not that we ever intended anything but harm towards the Iraqis ) and to ourselves.
As I mentioned elsewhere, my reaction when I heard it was that he was calling for civilian volunteers for civilian purposes. He then segwayed into the obligatory “Hooray for Our Heroes” segment without expanding on this. I didn’t hear anything like a call to arms for the 101st Fighting Keyboardists.
Didn’t he sing “I Put Iraq in a Box For You” right after that?
RTFirefly: If you check the polls, I think the military, especially the army leans very Republican these days. So apparently plenty of Republicans have decided to risk their lives for what they believed in. Your opening post might be considered a bit unfair.
That is high humor using the most parroted phrase by the right-winger hawks. The phrase has been abused so much, that it has stopped have real value.
I hate the fact we cannot just pullout. We have royally screwed up Iraq and did so under false pretenses, so now we are morally obligated to find a way to attempt to stabilize the disaster we created. I am not convinced this surge will make a significant difference. We need the Iraqis to take over for our men and woman and we need to get out as soon as possible.
I do seem to recall hearing this said by someone; I think it may have been the President of the United States. Der Trihs, I agree we shouldn’t have gone there in the first place, but would not Iraq fall into complete conflict if we pulled out at this point?
That’s funny. None of those folks actually appear to be IN the military, (and I know that at least three of them are young enough to volunteer).
Based on that criterion, any right-winger who has ever criticized Al Gore’s Vietnam experience needs to make a public apology.
I am pretty sure that RTF’s sniping can be challenged on several levels, but holding up reporters as examples of people who are putting their butts on the line the way they call on others to do is just a bit disingenuous.
Actually, while I do not consider their actions to faintly resemble volunteerring for the military and then for combat duty, each of the ones I read were written from journeys made outside the Green Zone.
