That’s only true in the classic, newtonian sense, and the fact is, we live in a non-newtonian universe.
I agree with Sanford that international relations should be treated exactly like a couple hillbillies squabbling over a fence line.

Shouldn’t that be really easy to determine, one way or another?
-Joe
Nuke it in orbit. It’s the only way to be sure.
I’ve always wondered if Newt has a nutty nougat center…mmm newty bars…
sorry.
The North Koreans are claiming to their domestic audience that it worked. We (US, Japan, whoever else) tracked into the ocean.
Hm…not a lot of Newt love around here…
‘She turned me into a Newt!’
:dubious:
‘Weeeelllll…I got better…’

A bit off topic, but… does anybody know what Newt Gingrich was doing on the dais at Obama’s inauguration? I understand the former Presidents and the current dignitaries, but are former Speakers of the House routinely invited? I didn’t see Tom Foley there (not to say he wasn’t, just that I didn’t see him).
That in itself is a giant mindfuck of Newt-onian proportions. Of course it fell into the ocean, I have complete faith in the truthiness of Western powers’ claims.
But that bedrock of faith, that absolute confidence in the freedom of press and all it conveys is probably dwarfed by the absolute faith many NKers have in Dear Leader. While there may be a handful/some Winston Smiths among the population (pre-101), there a multitudes of people who firmly believe that the official story is unnuanced truth. But then there’s those Winston Smiths – people who are probably thought of as wacky as our Truthers and Moonhoxers.
There’s some bizarre realities out there.
(Oh, and I’m pretty sure Newt has a nutty center. No idea about the nougat though, but there is probably some undigested Soylent Green, and a bit of roast evil from the end of Time Bandits.)
Here ya go:
Oh bullshit. The man is a mindless poseur who would make an absolutely disastrous President but to say that he wishes harm on America is just plain absurd. However ambitious he may be, his own sense of patriotism would never allow him to consciously wish for a terrorist attack. Whatever we may think of him, the damn guy isn’t Dr Evil or some comic book villain.
It’s quite possible to disagree with these people and think them idiots without arrogating to ourselves the sole possession of principles.
No, not bullshit. I don’t think he looks at any individual person, or contemplates an individual city. But in a somewhat similarly nauseating way, there were left-wingers who ardently hoped (again, in a nebulous, hope-for-our-HS-football-team-during-homecoming sort of way) for chaos and mayhem in Iraq in the months leading up to the election (in '04 as well). People whose patriotism is not necessarily relevant to their hope that Bush’s approval ratings and the country’s leanings would be swayed by a landmark body count.
Could they have said that to the face of a soldier who was shipping off? Of course not, and neither do I think that Newt would look at a New Yorker and hope he or she dies. But in both cases there is a dettachment of sorts, where private aspirations and hopes override those outside the monkeysphere.
WOW!
The Newt Bar has no center, just two right halves.
I worry about people like him more than an ineffectual terrormoppet like Kim Jong Il, actually. So long as I’m not a North Korean, anyway.
I do have to give it to the Germans though, they did dress snazzie. And I really do like that eagle design, shame it’s forever tainted.
One “war president” was quite enough. We don’t need another.
What?!?! Doesn’t my Church have any standards anymore? :smack::smack:
(Rhetorical question. Don’t answer that.)
He could totally do that.
Refresh my memory.
Hasn’t Newt already “sort of” been out of the “sort of” running, ever since he was “sort of” guilty or supsected of something that was “sort of” not a very good thing, about (I don’t know) 8 or 9 years ago?
Oh yeah, I remember, it was the “K Street Project”.
Well, he had an affair. So he can’t stand on the “family values and morality” platform. He was, through the K Street mess, part and parcel of the corruption that we still have now, so he can’t stand for honesty in government either.
I guess the only thing left is the “blow shit up” platform.
Why does anybody even report what Newt says any more? I mean, how long since he was in Congress?
