Er, yeah. But why is that information relevant to every damn post they make? I mean, there is a lot of “different information” I could include in every post, but it wouldn’t serve to add anything to the conversation.

Sans snark – why isn’t it being enforced? I’m not suggesting mass bannings, but some mod-hat-on reminders would be appreciated. If we flag, will you remind?
Hoping this finds you well and with best wishes for the Holiday Season,

Weirdly, there is sort-of a rule like that: threads have to be in English–there was a brief period where a bunch of posters were posting in non-English and the consensus (rightly, IMO) was that mods don’t have the time to Babelfish every post in a thread.
I don’t think thread titles alone trigger that rule though.
Yes, this is why I do it. I want to include the signoff in every post, but I am prohibited from posting my entire signature more than once per thread. I don’t know why it bugs people; I always thought the posters using it looked much classier.
I needn’t admit that. All I’ll admit to is that years ago, you were creeping me out by adopting what I thought was an unwarranted over-friendly tone with me, and I made one single post asking you to call me by another name, explaining that I’d totally understand if you didn’t want to do so–and years later you’re still on about it.
As noted not all of us use our names in the email address and if so it might be a full name, rather than your normal address. For example my first name is Nikola, but I usually sign “Nick” or “Nick last name” because that is what I go by in all but the most formal of circumstances. I don’t always bother with close friends anymore, but I always sign my name if responding to strangers or quasi-strangers, like say someone e-mailing me that I only know from the SDMB and haven’t interacted with in flesh-space.
But ALSO, that’s how I was trained to end letters when I was in High School, damnit! I’ve finally abandoned signing my posts on this board as I slowly inch into the 21rst century, simply because it seems to drive people bugfuck and I’m nothing if not accomodating. Mr. Accomodation they call me. But for the longest time I thought that is what you were supposed to do. Seems to me it was rather more common when I first got on the net back in the Dark Ages ( mid to late '90’s ). Gradually it has appeared to have become obsolete. But forgive some of us lagging behind the pack.
I only got my first cell phone two years ago. Finally moving to HDTV this Chirstmas. And I have yet to embrace 5.1 or larger - it’s still two-channel stereo for at least another year!
I just wanted to pop in and say that this whole thread makes me giggle.
Regards,
Most Sincerely,

Just as an example of how ridiculous it looks, take a look at the first five posts of this thread.this thread. 3 of the first 5 posts are from Vox Imperatoris. They’re all one-line posts. And he uses his little sig conceit in every one of them!
I’m struck by the fact that I just saw a poster today say that she wants to see more people post with differing viewpoints. If people can’t even tolerate something as simple as a sig. without forcing others to conform, I think it’s pretty doubtful that people with widely differing viewpoints would be very welcome.
Looked… still don’t get it from a pragmatic standpoint. I could easily… easily… parse out the sig part and read the meat of the post. Didn’t get a brain cramp; my head didn’t asplode; didn’t hear the baby jesus weep from all the non-sig sigs. Apparently the quote feature was not working for a short time or somesuch…
