What we would like you to do is “tolerate” the rules you agreed to when you signed up on this board, including these.
I just don’t see how that rule improves the quality of experience on these boards. Oh, and this stupid board software will not accept my 4-line signature. It only says it is valid as 3 lines, which makes no sense.
And I do. Besides this one thread in one post, I don’t recall signing a post.
I had asked about enforcement earlier since this thread wouldn’t even exist if compliance led to banning. Does it?
As for my more philosophical point about conformity, I think your point only reinforces mine.
I suppose the argument would go that everyone on the board should be able to tolerate sigs. But if they can’t, they have an option to ignore them by hitting the ‘don’t display sigs’ box.
I don’t understand why so many people are pissed off by it, but the board software gives them the ability to ignore it, the rest of us the ability to see sigs in all their glory. It just takes posters using the actual sig option, rather than typing it out. Easier on everyone, right?
But we are only allowed to post the sig (which everyone can ignore) once per thread.
Am I reading this right–that y’all are really going to get me to stop putting my name at the end of posts? That seems really crazy ridiculous to me, on par with making it against the rules to split infinitives–and worse, since it’s something I’ve done for nearly two decades whenever typing posts on messageboards, I’m almost certain to screw up.
I think something more reasonable would be to limit signatures to, say, two lines, and then leave well enough alone.
–grr! erasing signature!–
How many times do you really need to post it in order to feel special? What does it add on the fifteenth post that it doesn’t add on the first?
Yes, I don’t know why he has taken it into his hands to change the effective status quo.
Argh!
ETA: BS, what do we lose from it?
These interminable arguments, ferchrissake!
So ban the arguments if it’s that important. I like it when people sign posts, for the reasons I mentioned above. I think people complaining about it are getting off on whinging: it’s literally impossible for me to think of a pettier complaint that I’ve ever heard, and I teach second graders all day long. (Seriously: this puts “Mr. Dorkness, Jim-Bob was staring at me” to shame).
My God, I know! I felt the same way when everyone jumped on **Shodan **for it.

Third: It makes us want to claw our fucking buckeyes out!
Are we there, yet?

I’d be all in favor of allowing you sig-happy folks to append a sig onto as many posts as you want, as long as they’re actually in a sig box, and therefore ignorable by whoever doesn’t want to see them. Unfortunately, adding sigs causes an extra tax on the hamsters… and they’re nearly run out as is.
So we’ve got a group of overly whiny people complaining about something. In most circumstances, I’d totally be in the 'fuck ‘em’ camp. Except in this case, there’s a specific board rule against what you, Shodan, et. al. are doing. Rules aren’t meant to be broken.
Yeah, we should never have arguments on a message board.
To Czarcasm, should we be reporting signatures in posts when we see them? I think this was asked earlier but has not been answered, to my knowledge.
This just has to be read with Jan Brady’s voice…
Except this is the Pit, where I am protesting against the rule itself. Especially the fact that it was unenforced until now. It’s like if the international community tried to prosecute Bush for the war crime of fighting a battle east/west.

And I believe you were politely asked to comply with said rule, and thanked in advance for doing so. No official warning, no abrupt threats.
nevermind…
Or even better, we can ignore your sig altogether. See, now everyone’s happy. You get to preen and I get to be ignorant of your preening.
Huh. I just realized right here on this board that sometimes ignorance is bliss. Go figure.
Sorry, I just happen to think this is a particularly inane argument. There’s valuable Pit space that could be used to call Der Trihs or Liberal or **tomndebb **fuckwits that’s being spent on this.
No it’s not. There’s no law against fighting an east/west battle. It’d be like if you got a ticket for jaywalking. You know it’s a crime, but it’s not really a big deal. But if the cops’ attention is brought to it, they have a duty to crack down on it, and you have a duty to sit at the fucking crosswalk light and wait for it to change.
