Yep – it sounded just like regular French to me, too. I just wasn’t sure if I wasn’t understanding certain words because they were, in fact, different, or due to my loss of vocabulary. Indeed, the reader had a very strong American accent, which is why I inferred that he’s not actually a French speaker at all (though when I lived in Mexico, an American friend of mine spoke fluent Spanish with the heaviest Southern Texas accent you’ve ever heard – it was a hoot! – so anything’s possible, I guess).
