VW Passat commercial

There’s a commercial for the ‘German engineered’ VW Passat where a guy is at the Mexican border. The border guards see all sorts of storage space and decide they’d better take the car apart to see if there are any other secret comparments where the hapless driver may have stashed some contraband.

Aren’t Passats built in Mexico?

My Jetta was.

There certainly are a lot of counter-intuitive commercials lately. Like I want a car that I’m going to sit at the border and watch it be disassembled!

Even though we haven’t reached my self-imposed ‘link only once every 6 months’ limit, this

VW Golf GTI commercial still ranks as the #1 commercial of all time (IMHO).

No. The Passat and Cabrio are built in Germany.

That’s why factory parts are so frappin’ expensive. (Not that I’ve needed parts for my Passat, but the old Cabriolet was, well, old.)
