Mrs. L.A. wrote of the rampant understaffing of nursing facilities in her capstone project for her BSN.
She’s an idiot. Anyone who’s ever spent 5 minutes in a hospital knows that it’s the nurses that run the place, not the doctors.
Reminds me…
Way back in 1973 I had an emergency appendectomy. Following the surgery, they threw me into a 30-patient ward. The care was horrible. The old man in the bed next to me had to use a bedpan, and he called for nurses. Nobody came, since they were all down the hall playing cards. At some point a nurse came in and yelled at the old man for shitting in the bed. He cried.
Everything in that hospital stank, including doctors, nurses, etc. My surgery was botched, and I almost died. It was Long Island College Hospital in Brooklyn, NY. Since then, it’s been mercifully shut down.
I’ve been in other hospitals since then, and the nursing staff has been exemplary.
Ah, the memes make so much more sense now.
Since I started paying attention like 25 years ago, nurses have always been excellent. Doctors, especially family practice GPs, on the other hand have been less than attentive. I’m not ready to preach my stereotypes, but I also don’t expect much from anyone who isn’t an emergency physician.
