So there’s this little storm headed our way.
In fact, it’s projected path seems to run through our living room and out the back door.
Gonna unplug the 'puters soon-- wish us luck, whoo-hoo!
…aaaand the rain is really just starting now.
See ya when the power comes back on, folks!
Far out! That looks awesome! Hope nobody has property or personal damage - just bloody well enjoy it! We’ve had 19ml of rain in 7 months …
I know you won’t see this for a while, but good luck. When you get back you should talk with ivylass, she went through three hurricanes in a season a few years back.
Good luck. My family has been through a few, and they can be messy. Be very careful when you emerge from your hidey hole, and remember - all the stuff is just stuff - don’t be injured trying to save stuff.
Along with a bunch more of us.
Mercedes, eh? I gradumacated nextdoor from Mc High (back when there was only one).
I’m a little envious of you, really. Nothing like a weather event to wake you up proper, provided no damage occurs.
We had some bands roll through to rattle us out of bed this morning but nothing serious. I hope it’s just a good rain event for you and all the parched surroundings and that you remain damage-free.
Yeah, like, ahem and shit.
Power’s back on!
Well, that was fun. Everyone is fine, and no major damage to our stuff.
I’m glad we rent this place, though-- it’s gonna need a new roof, at least.
One big tree in our yard fell, that was about as scary as things got.
McAllen?
Good deal! Did the eye get pretty close to you? Max wind speed at your abode? Inches of rain?
Sounds like Harlingen had it pretty rough.
ETA: Yes, Sigmagirl, but late '70s.
AHAHAHAH! My husband went there! They lived on Yucca!
The streets are alphabetical and believe it or not we were one over on Xanthisma. Small world. A windy one… but small nevertheless.
PM headed your way…
“Check the rain gauge.”
“It’s gone.”
“Oh.”
Weslaco (two miles west of here) got 9.75". Not bad, eh? Lots of flooding.
There was enough wind to flatten and or twist many street signs here, power lines down on the next block (Oooh, sparkly!), and the 30’ tree in our yard fell before our fence blew apart, probably saving some windows from chunks of said fence.
Lieu, ever been back? You wouldn’t recognise McAllen at all now.
So, did you “hunker down?”
I’m glad you’re okay. As we say in Florida, “Category 2? Piffle. Wake me up when it’s a Category 4…then maybe I’ll bring in the patio furniture.”
Now it’s just clean up. How long was your power out?
Once. Yeah, that’s what I hear.
News reports say there was a fair amount of “activity” along the border before and during the storm, smugglers and whatnot hoping law enforcement was preoccupied. If you hear any interesting stories that aren’t available on a national feed, do share!
Guess that shows who’s one of the Popular Kids around here, huh?
Power came back up amazingly fast, it was only out 17-18 hours or so. Caught us off-guard when it came back on. All the lights and couple window a/c units grinding up to speed really makes you jump, if you’re used to it being quiet and dark.
What’s the opposite of “hunker down”? My wife had to keep me from getting naked and running around outside while I screamed my defiance to the storm gods.
I’ve heard it is expected that a lot of contraband came up following around the backside of the storm, yeah. That would be offshore, though. I doubt anyone tried to cross the river last night.
I spent the a.m. dragging tree parts to the curb. There’s a pile of crud about the size and shape of an airstream trailer on our curb now. Palm trees are really just big weeds. I hate 'em
And yes, we’ve had it really easy compared to you Florida folks.
During the blackout, were you signing showtunes?
Well, Hello Dolly
I live in San Antonio, and (shamefully) we usually kinda like hurricanes, because all they do is bring us lots of much-needed rain.
It was pouring here all morning. I stayed in bed and slept through it. Waking up just often enough to hear the rain. I am not going to lie and say I didn’t thoroughly enjoy it. Sleeping late when it’s raining outside is one of life’s simplest and most profound pleasures, IMHO.
But I grew up in Corpus Christi so I understand the fear of hurricanes! My sympathy to everyone who is in that zone this hurricane season…
