…deportation! And possible retribution from al Qaeda!
Can anyone justify the government’s position? Other than “silence the whistleblower,” that is not a good one.

Well, I don’t think that’s the position, unless we’re not being told something (and writer Doris Bloodsworth should still be slapped for not explicitly stating WHY he is being deported). My guess is that he’s being deported because of his conviction:
Probably a general INS rule that non-citizens convicted of crimes can be deported. I doubt it’s some active attempt to silence the whistleblower … more likely just blind bureaucratic cruelty in carrying out the letter of the law without stopping to notice that this guy did us a favor, and apparently should have Ashcroft’s blessing:
Are you telling me that our government is actually considering deporting an illegal immigrant who is also a convicted child abuser and thief? What are they, crazy??!!
“Child abuser and thief?”
He “slapped” his daughter and tried to sell stolen goods. That outweighs any governmental interest in finding out about cataclysmic terrorist attacks, if you are myopic as a way of life.
Not even that, “goods” is plural. He tried to sell “A” (singular) stolen ring.
Calling him a “child abuser and a thief” is an exaggeration.
