Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story Appreciation

Thismoviehas made the rounds from video to movie channels so a lot more people have been able to watch it. If you haven’t, you should. This is hands down one of the funniest movies I’ve seen (especially since I loved Walk the Line). I think it’s a better kind of comedy thanks to the lack of Will Ferrell.

From the people who have seen it, what is your favorite part? Mine is the Yiddish in jail. What lines do you quote most? I usually try to work in being saved by too many or too few blankets. Which version of Dewey is your favorite? Mine is a tie: Dylan Dewey or Brian Wilson Dewey.

I also loved seeing Jenna Fischer outside of The Office. Kristen Wiig was also priceless as the unsupportive wife. Jack Black’s Elvis was bizarrely good.

I gave this movie about 12 minutes before I couldn’t stand it anymore. My dad said he made it about a half hour in. My uncle finished it, but said it was the worst movie he’d ever seen.

Does my family have a problem?

I love this movie completely. Have you watched the extended version?
I think it is even better and has a much longer period in the disco-era.
For me my favourite part was the Roy Orbison period (or was it someone else he was emulating?)
But it wasn’t Jack Black playing Elvis.
Jack Black played Paul McCartney of the Beatles… from Liverpool.

I, too, love the movie; but I admit it is a “guilty pleasure” kind of enjoyment. After all, I am a mother! With two young children!

snicker

I can’t help my sophomoric sense of humor. My favorite song was the “duet” one… name eludes me at the moment.

My favorite line has got to be “You hear !!! I am Dewey Cox 14-year old girlfriend !!”.

That and “I’M GONNA PUNCH YOU IN THE MOUTH… I didn’t mean that”.

Crap, I was thinking of the guy from the White Stripes. Jack White, right? I love how in the movie if there’s a famous musician in a scene, the name gets repeated a million times.

Yes. Even if you don’t like sophomoric dick jokes, the movie is worth it for the sheer brilliant artistry that went into the song parodies. (Which are really more genre parodies, and amazingly well executed.)

My favorite line was in the trailers but I don’t remember seeing it in the film.
When doing an ad for his line of breakfast sausages:
“It don’t say Cox until I say it tastes like Cox.”

Wife, ten seconds after declaring her undying love and faith in Dewey: [paraphrased] “Blah blah you’re a loser give up your stupid dream, I didn’t sign up to live in this stupid apartment”

Dewey (40-year-old actor) “Well, I think I’m doing pretty good for a 14-year-old with a wife and baby!”

The humor in the movie comes from the overall absurdity of the whole thing. If you don’t pay attention, it really won’t push itself on you.

I almost went to see this in the theatres, because I like John C. Reilly and I thought it looked good, but I decided to check out the “watch the first 10 minutes free” promotion on the studio’s website. Hooooooolly shit. What a turd. I wanted to punch everyone involved in this stinker right through my monitor after about 2 or 3 minutes.

I haven’t seen I Walk the Line, but I did see Ray, and I loved this movie. I wonder if those who don’t like it haven’t seen musical biopix. I don’t have a particular favorite part, but I liked in general the over the top “This is an Important Event we Need to Make Sure you Understand” parts, of which the Beatles scene was the most obvious. I also liked the magically multiplying children. We need to see it again, since I’m sure there is stuff I missed the first time around.

I laughed until I hurt, the first time I saw this.

Hilarious movie!

My favorite scenes were the Tim Meadows drug scenes.

[paraphrased]: “It will not give you a hangover! It is not physically addictive! You don’t want none of this, man!”

Also one of my favorite scenes. Here’s the clip: http://www.funnyordie.com/videos/237205a840/walk-hard-reefer-from-dewey-cox-and-judd-apatow

What’s so interesting about this movie si that some people simply get bored and hate it, but others see the humor in it. Almost nobody just say, “eh”. A very curious reaction.

I loved it. Maybe it does rely too much on the spectator having watched “Walk the line”, but one of those rare, enjoyable, dumb comedies.

The song parodies are really the best part of the movie; without those, I’d be in the “meh, dumb movie” crowd.

He never once paid for drugs!

I haven’t seen any of the music biopics, but I do love Reilley and stupid Will Ferrel movies (except for “Semi-Pro”) and I thought this movie was hilarious.

I love you too Dewey…you’re never going to make it.

I got bored and said “eh.” Does that count?
