Walk in a straight line and eave your body - Help ID this Sci-Fi story

Afternoon all
Well, this was a short story i read 15 odd years ago in school.
Stuff i remember…

the main character discovered a way to leave your body, something to do with walking a straight line?

soon everyone was doing it

your body continued to walk while you were seperate from it, at one point Someone’s body ended up walking into a lake/pond while they were out of it.

Sorry that’s about it, i tried googling the keyword but got lots of sites about astral projection.
Anyone remember this one?
thanks in advance

If it’s the story I vaguely remember, I think it’s by Kurt Vonnegut. Maybe from Welcome to the Monkey House?

Definitely Vonnegut. I think the title is “Unready to Wear.”

cheers jr8
looks like it may be Unready to Wear
i’ll check it out

(and it’s reminded me of the story ‘Harrison Bergeron’
which is superb!)

and thanks RealityChuck too

i love this board!

I’ll have to get into Vonnegut again. I remember reading his stories a few years back and really liking them.

SF with a message, and very well-written.
