I read a scifi story somewhere in the late 60’s to late 70’s, it has been bugging me since. Cannot remember the title or author…All I can remember it was a solitary man on (Mars?) who (crash-landed?) and had no food, no water. Was dying. Found what had been some type of dwelling. Saw a ‘trough’…saw a ‘fountain’…heard awful noises. The last I remember of this is when he put his ‘snout’ into the trough and ate… he had transformed to life there. Oh help please. Thanks, jean
You’ll probably do better with a question like this in Cafe Society. I’ll alert the mods so they can help out with moving it.
Could be “Enchanted Village” by A.E. van Vogt.
If you asked me on a quiz show I wouldn’t have gotten the title and author. But I knew I had it in one or more anthology books I have.

Yeah, that sounds right - the description of Enchanted Village here Private Site says “During the night, it seems the city adjusts. The man wakes up to a delicious meal, violin music, and a proper bed temperature. He waddles off happily, unperturbed by his new snout and four-foot tail.”
Definitely the Van Vogt.
