Just saw the movie over the weekend. It was a really good story, but the ending made me want for more.
I guess I have to claim ignorance here in that I’m wondering what pills Johnny kept popping throughout the movie. I didn’t know that there were such addictive prescriptions available back in the 50’s and such.
So, with that in mind, what pills did Johnny Cash get addicted to in the 50’s and early 60’s? I knew of heroin and of course, cocaine, but pills?
Please abolish my ignorance! I hate being ignerent!
Well his arrest was for smuggling amphetamines. I imagine he was on the customary pill poppers diet of amphetamines and various tranquilizers.
My dad was a huge Johnny Cash fan and served in WWII. He told me that the government actually made amphetamines available to soliders before a major battle and that many guys got hooked on morphine in the hospital as well. The more things change, the more they stay the same I guess.
Yes, I saw a documentary on TV about that, and it was indeed amphetamines.
The documentary pointed out that prescribing amphetamines wasn’t that uncommon in the fifties and sixties. Doctors used to routinely prescribe them as an aid to weight loss.
