I just read the header for the ABC news forum that The Wall Street Journal got 356 voters of the Academy Awards to tell who they voted for and why. Many are ‘outraged’.
My question, though it IS mundane, SO?? Is there ANYONE who sits in breathless anticipation through the four or more hours of that show to really find out who won the latest honor?
Would you not watch now, because you know who probably won?? I’m saying ‘probably’ because there are 5,607 voting members, if only 356 of them were careless with their various beans, it’s still leaves a sizable amount unaccounted for tonight.
I’m only surprised that it hasn’t happened before, though, I AM surprised that it was the Journal, rather than say, USA Today.

“Um, according to who? Nothing more than a high brow troll, though occasionally the bi polar personality swung in a constructive direction on innocuous topics.” Omniscient
Well, I wasn’t planning on watching anyway, because we’re having my sister’s birthday party tomorrow (and it was 50/50 on me watching it even before that was set up), but if the names were published, there’s a good chance that those are 356 people who won’t be voting in next year’s awards.
I’m sure your party will be better than the awards show! It didn’t mention on the news forum who ‘spilled the beans’, they only mentioned two who didn’t, calling them ‘party poopers’. Buddy Hackett, and Amy Irving. Which means, they’ll get awards for that, I’m sure!
The real old ones won’t vote for American Beauty cuz they could never vote for a subject like the one it covers, So they went for the Cider one instead.
No, not waiting breathlessly for the answers – we already knew, right? I watch every year primarily to see if there are any
silly, humorous, impromptu incidents, and of course to critique the actresses dresses and hairstyles. I’m also pleasantly surprised sometimes when one of the winners makes a relatively brief, classy acceptance speech (this is rare, of course). If only they’d eliminate the stilted, lame attempts by the presenters to be funny, and the long, boring production numbers and just get on with it (they need to take a lesson from the Golden Globe Awards show).
It matters to a lot of people with a lot of money. If you’re an industry insider, then being at a winner’s after-the-show party might mean the difference between whether you have a job in six months or not. Being seen in the photos with a winner is worth big money for a hype organization like Hollywood. A lot of industry execs can only accept invites to one party, so who do you pick? Cider House Rules’s party, or American Beauty’s party? It’s something of a lottery, where picking the winner pays off.
Speaking of being paid off for the winner… You can also gamble on Oscar picks. Lots of places offered wagers on the Academy awards. I didn’t check to see if they closed out the betting when the WSJ announced that it had the winners, though.
Uh, are you aware of the subject of Cider House Rules?
Adrock, light up the place
And if you pull my card you pull the ace
And if you ask me turn up the bass
And if you play Defender I could be your hyperspace
