Telltale Games- who has pretty much certified themselves as the king of point-and-click adventures with their episodic series starring Sam and Max and Strong Bad- yesterday released the first episode in their latest episodic series, Wallace and Gromit’s Grand Adventures. The clumsy British inventor and his suffering dog have made the leap to episodic adventure gaming, and I would say they succeeded.
Having played through the first episode, I must say it feels very much like an interactive Wallace and Gromit cartoon- there are a lot of funny gags and a lot of action. Not surprisingly, Wallace has made a new invention, but it soon goes awry, and it’s up to poor Gromit to save the day. And like all good Wallace and Gromit adventures, it even ends with an action sequence. Some interesting and funny new characters add to the fun, too.
As much as I like Strong Bad, I think the first Wallace episode was even more entertaining and fun to play than the entire Strong Bad series. If you’re a fan of adventure gaming in the old-timey LucasArts vein, Wallace and Gromit, or both, this series is definitely worth the purchase-and-download. Cracking game, Telltale!
