Walmart scam. How does the scammer benefit?

I hope you did that through your own access to your account, not via a link in the notification.

Good. The wording was a bit ambiguous.

Once my Amazon account was hacked and they ordered a couple of cheap things to be sent to me. When I got the order email notifications I checked my account and the orders weren’t there. (Google “archived orders” to see what they did–what a stupid feature. I learned about this a bit later.) I contacted Amazon, they told me to just return the items, and I thought that was the end of it. Anyway, then they ordered a couple of gift cards which were electronic and basically untraceable. Then I changed the password. The most lingering problem was they also recruited hundreds of web sites to sign me up for various email notices so I would be so flooded that I wouldn’t see the Amazon orders coming in. So I also had to change my email address.

Welp that makes sense- I didn’t even think about gift cards!

What a pain in the butt!
