He does so even when he wins so no difference, but yes, here he basically preempts his followers from even paying attention to what Vance says since it’s all part of the Great Unfairness against Trump. JD is not even given the honor to fail on his own.

Why am I nervous about this debate?

May it be boring.

I don’t think it will be boring. It will be interesting. Vance will undoubtedly make some boneheaded remarks (e.g. Haitians eating dogs and cats in Springfield), and Walz will undoubtedly come up with a football reference or analogy. Neither will be as flat or as boring as Ferris Bueller’s economics teacher.

Ben Stein, who was a speechwriter for Tricky Dick Nixon himself.

No idea; I personally can’t imagine a likely scenario where it’s a huge disaster for Walz based on what little I know about both candidates. It probably exists, but it’s not coming to mind easily. We’ll see.

Probably because Vance, although evil, hypocritical, totally unethical and self-serving and totally lacking in empathy and an inveterate liar, differs from his orange boss in that he’s not actually stupid, and won’t be as easily manipulated as the Orange Imbecile. As a genuinely good and honest man, Walz has his work cut out for him.

And I’ve been reading that Vance considers himself a superstar debater and loves to pick verbal fights.

Interesting article.

“The good thing with JD is that he’s done so much media that he’s been hit with oppo and defended himself so much,” the source told NOTUS. “He does multiple interviews a week where he’s being hit with tough questions. JD is fully comfortable answering the attacks on himself and has experience doing it, whereas Walz does not.”

Are they starting late?
Never nind, saw the CDT.

and the stakes are very high

I hope Walz comes out like Harris: offering a handshake and a polite greeting to Vance. That won’t throw Vance off, like it did Trump, because Vance will likely be expecting it; but it will establish Walz as the classier of the two.

Watching the pregame show on MSNBC right now. I really don’t know what to expect and I wish I did. I know both sides have done their level best to lower expectations.

I have a very strong suspicion that Walz is not as bad a debater as he’s trying to get people to believe. As others have said, Vance may have formal debate experience and training, but you cannot fake authenticity. Not easily at least. And Walz has that over Vance in spades.

As long as Walz sticks to his talking points, doesn’t get flustered, and allows his natural personality to shine through in contrast to Vance, I think he’ll do just fine.

Debate time.

The candidates are already at their podiums.

And we are off!

No walk on they are at the podiums.

Dang, we missed the handshake.

Well, there was a handshake, though I don’t know who took the initiative.

Did Vance learn from Trump’s handshake gaffe and offer Walz a tentacle?
