Just got an email forwarded from the current owner. Her name is Sondra and she lives in Clinton, IL, between Bloomington and Decatur. Her email is babydoll @ mchsi . com
Oh, life makes more sense now. Good for Lesley for being responsible enough to watch out for her dogs.
I hope Dakota finds a home, I do sibe rescue in Ontario, and i have a few contacts in the US, I can give them a shout see if they have a anyone looking for a dog.
Heard back from my parents. They still have some travelling planned, driving to Alaska for one, and don’t really want to have a dog along. Sorry.
The dog should go back to its breeder, plain and simple, as per the breeder’s agreement.
Is Sondra trying to make a buck or two by selling the dog? If all she wants to do is surrender the dog, then the dog should automatically go back to its breeder.
In most of my breeder contracts, the breeder has FIRST RIGHT on the dog if it is to be placed, meaning that if you can’t keep the dog it MUST go back to the breeder. You can’t place it yourself. This is quite standard with any registered dog/litter…
shrug Otherwise, Sibe rescue fostering would be the right way to go. Sibes aren’t for “everyone”, no matter how sweet the dog is…
Wait - okay - reread some stuff. The owner wants the breeder to BUY the dog back?
This almost NEVER happens in the dog world, unless you’re dealing with breeding/show-quality stock.
Methinks the owner wants a buck or two on the dog (to get her money back, basically), which is quite unethical… so is the threat to “give her to a kill shelter” if no one buys her.
If she really truly loves her dog and wants to find the right home for her, then the dog should go back to its breeder. If the breeder’s home is already “full” (which is a statement that somewhat bothers me, but still…) then the former owner should perhaps help pick up the tab of boarding at another breeder’s house until the proper home is found for her beloved pet.
shrug
My impression (and I’m only going on the emails I’ve posted here, which is all the info I have) is that the current owner would like to get some money for the dog (since she presumably spent money on it). Nevertheless, it sounds like she has eventually managed to admit she’ll do what is best for the dog, regardless of cost.
My impression of the breeder (Lesley) is that she’s willing to take the dog back (as was in her contract), but it will currently cost her money to board the dog, which she is trying to avoid.
It seems as if it’s best for both of them (and Dakota as well) if they can find someone willing to adopt the dog, and solve everyone’s dilemma.
It sounds like money is tight at both ends of this deal, and they’d both be grateful to find a third party to take the dog off their collective hands.
That’s my impression, anyway; and I don’t really know anything more about the situation than I’ve posted here.
Jeff, thanks for checking.
::bump::
I showed the Dakota Webpage that Weirddave put together to Dogdad. Siberians are his weak point - and Dakota looks VERY much like our FormerDog.
Right now, things just aren’t good for us taking another dog, but please, Dijon Warlock, please post to the thread again to let us know what’s going on with Dakota if / when you find out anything?
We might be able to do SOMETHING if the situation Goes South In A Big Hurry.
Thanks awfully…
Thanks, DogMom. I was on the point of tapping my sister for an update, anyway; since I don’t want to clog up Weirddave’s website any longer than necessary.
I’ll see what she can tell us.
Just got an email from my sister yesterday:
Thanks for the update, Dijon Warlock. Please let us know for sure, but right now there’s three happy dances going on here at the DogHouse - DogDad, me, and CurrentDog are keeping all our paws crossed for Dakota’s Happy Ending!
I am happy to hear the good news, too, Dijon Warlock. One of my aussies is a rescue…it just breaks my heart to hear of situations where a good dog has to be rehomed. Right here at Christmas, knowing that Dakota may have a new home is just delightful.
Thank you for going to bat for Dakota.
