Wanna see my bedroom?

At the risk of exciting those who harbor secret lust for me, I thought I’d share some photos of my bedroom.

I spent this weekend painting it before calling in my realtor and getting the listing done. The walls used to be a dark, beautiful garnet. Now they’re pale, pale green. Supposed to make the room look bigger. Sheesh, it’s 11X19 - how much bigger does it need to look?? But I want to sell the place, so I’ll take the advice from the pros.

Lest you think I’m a major league exhibitionist, the main reason I posted them is so my husband can see the change in the room. He may not get back down here before the house is sold. Then when I got to thinking of my legions of fans and how hungry they must be for any tidbit about my life…

You’re welcome.

Ah.

Fuel for my sick twisted fantasies.

Sure doesn’t LOOK green in the pictures, though… more of a cream yellow. Not that that’s bad.

Glad to help your sick, twisted fantasies…

Funny thing about the color - it’s from a 5 gallon OOPS bucket from Home Depot. We got it because it was just $15 and we wanted to paint the living room and entry hall. I started in the hall and thought it was a creamy yellow. Not my first choice, but no biggie, since we’re moving. It wasn’t until I got to the last wall in the living room and the light was just right that I realized it was pale green. I still had a couple of gallons left, so I figured I may as well use it in the bedroom.

It really is a nice subtle shade, but the room was so much more attractive in garnet. Durn house better sell quick now!!

(sigh) I just wish my house was that clean. I mean, by some other means than myself doing the work, of course.

I would have preferred the garnet, personally. I tend towards bolder colors, and in fact have been (in the past, when house-hunting) would lament to the realtor about how bland the colors in some houses were. Not everybody likes bland.

But your house is really open and airy! Green or not, I like it. But no…not in the market…sorry!

Sylkyn, the only reason it’s clean is because I wasn’t about to post photos of a messy room. The rest of the house is a disaster, and unphotographed!

FCM, I had to laugh at loud at your post about not posting pictures of a messy room. I would have done the same thing!

Good luck on getting your house sold. I’ll tell you a funny story about selling mine. On the spur of the moment, my husband decided to check out a new development two blocks behind us. He dragged me over there and we looked at the houses. I liked the fourth house we looked at. This was last April. Two days later, the realtor was at our house (because I wanted to clean it up a little first), and we signed papers to purchase the new home on contingency of selling the old home. The next morning (Tuesday) the “For Sale” sign was in front of the old house. By Thursday of that same week, at 11:00 a.m., my old house was sold!

You want to know the funny thing? The house was NOT immaculate. Because all of this was spur of the moment, the house was definitely not in showroom condition. The walls needed paint, and the carpet (15 yr old carpet) was in a sorry state of affairs. So, between people trooping into our home, we cleaned furiously, and my husband made numerous trips to the dump. I was so embarrassed to have people come into my messy home. But, they all understood, we were moving and cleaning at the same time. I had several people tell me, they were glad we didn’t paint. Most people want to choose their own colors.

In addition, the realtor warned us our old home could be difficult to sell. Why? Because it was a two bedroom, one bath home. The accentuated the positives about the place; almost a third of an acre lot, terrific school district, easy access to stores, etc.; two car garage, open floor plan with a large kitchen and a family room off the dining room/living room area. Difficult to sell, hah! Sold in two days from the time the “For Sale” sign went up! Plus, right after I had signed papers accepting the offer, another realtor showed up with clients. They offered more than the buyer, but reality dictated it wouldn’t appraise at that price. Plus, buyer waived inspection (silly her), so it all went well for me.

Anyway, long story short; from looking at the new house to moving in took three weeks. I was amazed!

Hopefully, your sale will go just as well! I’m pulling for you!

Thanks, Taters! Really, the ideal situation would be a buyer who closed right away and let us lease back through the end of May. My daughter graduates high school on the 21st and I hate the thought of moving during the semester. But the sale is most important.

We sold one house before the sign went on the lawn. I suppose it’s too much to hope for that again.

Try this http://www.irregardless.net/degage/stj_ljs.htm . It worked the last time we sold a house. It was on the market four days when we got a contract. Since we didn’t want to forget Joseph, we dug him up. Whoops, the sale fell through. Back out in the front yard goes Joseph (right side up) and two days later the house sold for good. YMMV!

I’ve heard about burying Joe, but I’ve never had to do it. We’ll see if I’m still on the market in March…

Yes, this is a shameless bump, and the only one I’ll do, because I’m so doggone pleased with my weekend accomplishment and I can’t have those who never venture beyond the first page miss out.

That’s all.

Oh, that and I managed to keep the room tidy for the rest of yesterday. I even made the bed this morning. Gotta get into that “house for sale” state of mind.

Go ahead, FCM, tell them how many coats it took.

Ah, yes, number of coats.

2 of KILZ - a primer to cover most of the dark base

2 of the top coat - necessary for even coverage.

Yep, I painted each surface FOUR TIMES!! Is it any wonder my right arm is achy today??

FCM, Good job! I feel your pain, literally. Remember that pic of our demolished bedroom I sent you? Well the sheetrock is up and spackled and I’m ready to start painting today. Ugh.
What’s really wierd is our bedroom is also 11 x 19.
And we have that same popcorn ceiling!
And the same ceiling fan!!! * cue creepy music*
And the same TV sitting on top of a dresser!!!
And (almost) the same bedspread!!!
Whatever you do, don’t look under the bed!

We aren’t painting it green however. The rest of the house is green. I’m sick of it.

Hope you got a good realtor, and good luck.

[sub] Now I can say I’ve been in FCM’s bedroom![/sub].

Bumb - are we living parallel lives?? Do you use your TV as an alarm clock? I do.

And there’s nothing under the bed. I cleared it all out when I moved the bed. I’ve got a stack of stuff to pack.

We’ve got a team of realtors and I was impressed with their enthusiasm. Leslie is coming over tomorrow with the contract, and she’s going to take photos. Then we’ll have someone over to do the 360-degree tour thingie. When they get the stuff on their website, I’ll post a link, just to show off the rest of the place!

You changed from dark garnet to pale green??? Are you MAD!? I would have bought your place if it was still garnet… tsk tsk!

In the pic bedroom3.jpg I imagined myself tripping over that wire next to the wall over…and over…and over again. Then again, at times, I believe I’m a reincarnated Stooge.

It looks like a motel room. The comforter and lamps scream motel room. Nice paint job!

Sanguine Spider, it’s that realtor state of mind about making things look bigger. I don’t understand it myself - I think a bedroom should look cozy. But they’re the pros, so I’ll let them overrule my taste.

Kaotic Newtral, you’d be hard-pressed to trip over any wires - they’re all against the walls. Although I’d pay money to see you manage it!

CatPerson, motel room?? I’ll have you know my comforter is a classic bed-in-a-bag design!! From WalMart! And the lamps are hand-me-downs from my mom! More classics! And it doesn’t look like a motel room because there’s no cheesy generic art over the bed. Not that I’m that much of an authority of cheesy motel rooms… Don’t tell HGTV how badly I decorate…

Ha! I knew I recognized that comforter!

You can’t beat a Bed in a Bag. Okay, you can beat it, but only with a nice broom.

Granted, it’s not the finest of linens, but we liked the colors and the pattern. It’s gotten a bit ratty in the last 6 years, and the cat decided it was a scratch toy last month, but we got our money’s worth from it.

I expect it’ll be replaced when we get into the new house.
