Have you ever wanted to be a major league GM? Have you ever wanted to have the opportunity to run a baseball franchise the way you wanted to? Well, here’s your chance. The Unofficial SDMB Out of the Park Baseball League has an opening. Our league just finished it’s 10th season and will be starting a new season this week.
Out of the Park is a baseball simulation game where you act as the general manager. You draft amateurs from the high school and college ranks, bring them up through the minor leagues to the show, trade players with your fellow owners, deal with injuries, set your lineups and pitching staff, and manage the front office.
The team that is currently available is the Denver Zephyrs . Denver finished in last place in the Adams division this past season. The Zephyrs don’t have a lot of major league talent (if they did, they would not have finished in last place), but do have some interesting young players. Starting pitchers David Alcala (a #1 draft pick) and James Turner are currently on the major league roster and show promise. In addition, young 1B Octavio “Grandpa” Cabralas, one of the top prospects in the game, is also just about ready for the big time. Lastly, Denver will have the first pick in the next amateur draft.

So, what’s required? Well, you have to have a computer and internet connection, but seeing as how you are reading this on the SDMB, you probably have one already. You also have to purchase the software. We’re playing version 6.5 of the Out of the Park game. It should cost you about $30 or so and can be downloaded here.
In addition, we ask that you be an active participant. That usually means that you have to upload your team changes to the server once a week (you can do this at any point during the week), respond to other owner’s trade inquiries and keep abreast of what’s happening in the league. All in all, it shouldn’t take more than a half an hour a week.
If you have any questions, please feel free to email me (commish AT izev DOT com) or post them here. I and the other league members will do our best to answer any and all questions you have.
