Want vs. Would like

I use the terms ‘want’ and ‘would like’ differently than most people do. It seems to me that my way makes more sense than…umm…whatever other people do.

If I want something, I will actively seek it out. If I want a bologna sandwich, then I will make or buy one. If, however, I don’t think it worth the effort (too expensive, whatever) to go seek it out, but would still enjoy it if someone just gave one to me, then I would like it.

Seem reasonable? And if I get everyone to use them like this then I won’t have to explain this every time someone asks me if I want something.

‘Want’ is something I would actively seek out. ‘Would like’ would be something I would love to have, but maybe I cannot afford it, or something like that.

ex.

I want a tuna sandwhich.
I would like a tuna sandwhich served to me on a gold platter.

That’s pretty much the same as what I said.
