No way. Besides, they don’t have to. Theres more ways to bugger an election that there are hairs on a dog.
Hey, if it’s an open offer, I’m in for 100 bucks. If they don’t, I score a Benjamin; if they do, then it won’t much matter.
Is there any mechanism by which a POTUS can suspend an election? I wouldn’t put it past them morally, but is there even a flimsy legal justification they could use.
We had an election in 1864 during a Civil Way. It would be suicide for Bush (in more ways then one) to try that.
Going after Iran is just too stupid. There were only two countries in the world who were beyond diplomacy, Iraq and North Korea. And North Korea can’t do anything that wouldn’t doom it to a fairly quick demise. Iran we can bargain with. Khatami we can bargain with. This election can not come soon enough for me.
How about supporting terrorists abroad?
This, of course, would have opened up the U.S. for invasion on more occasions than I’m sure you’d care to remember…
Your use of ellipses adds an ominous tone to your otherwise predictable post!
There’s no Constitutional mechanism that I know of, but I would not be surprised if they found a way. Or as Elucidator suggests, they allowed the election but nobbled the results.
And please, next year vote for a viable candidate, not that Nader clown.
The really sad thing is that this doesn’t surprise me. You thought Bush was kidding when he included Iran, Iraq and North Korea in the “Axis of Evil”?
I saw this coming a long time ago. Not that I’m real happy about being right.
I suspect I’ll be getting deployed fairly regularly for the next few years. I hope I’m wrong about that, but I doubt it.
RickJay, you ignorant slut! Those were Freedom Fighters! The “moral equivalent of our Founding Fathers”. Dont believe it, just read the Reagan papers. Which you will be able to do, on or about January, 2005, if God shall cease to avert His eyes.
You won’t be able to i Bush is reelected.
If God shall cease to avert his eyes, being the operative phrase.
Airman, short of “over my dead body” I’ll do whatever I can to stop it. Been doing it for thirty years now, hasn’t worked yet, best I can tell. Hell, last time, 10 million people took to the streets to yell “No!” and the sanctimonious little twit just says he dont listen to “focus groups”. Its like chunking popcorn balls at a Sherman tank.
You took an oath, you don’t have options, I understand that, and respect it. With your permission, I would be honored to march for two.
My, my, some of you are absolutely apoplectic in this thread. Elucidator, please don’t hurt yourself!
Just think, we’ve got almost six more years to go!
If we take out Syria too, we’ll have the makings of an empire that stretches from the Mediterranean to China; have to start calling the prez “Dubya the Great.”
Quite right, milroyj, you just keep calm. After all, whats the big deal, right? It’s only war. Wouldn’t want you to miss American Idol over anything so inconsequential.
Yeah, I’m mad! Mad as hell! Why aren’t you mad?
This is just another reason for me to vote against Mr. Bush. My vote will not have any effect, for I live in Idaho. In this state it is a point of pride to elect any Republican, no matter the qualifications of any opponent.
Maybe if we found WMD or the head guy from the last war, or the guy we were looking for in the war before that one, this would look more like a good idea. Looks to me like Bush is trying to make up for the lack of a giant tax cut and keep his approval rating high.
The lack of a giant tax cut?
For God’s sake, who was the last viable candidate? ~frowns~
I’m thouroughly frustrated at this point with them all. The electoral college is an obsolete, antiquated idea that has outlived it’s time. Gore was the better of two evils (IMO). A Libertarian is not going to win, not in the near future. Nadar, Perot…come on.
For the record, I was not against the war in Iraq, though I wanted more time. I was not against ousting the Taliban. I am against going wholesale into any other country at this time.

~My vote didn’t count, I live in TX and I didn’t vote for Bush~
I stand by my pet theory that the driving force behind Bush’s foreign policy is a desire to conquer all countries with Kurdish minorities in them. First Iraq, next on the bill are Iran and Syria. After that just for good measure (and to get even for having the 4th Infantry Division floating in the Mediterranean for a month), it’s on to Turkey.
Since they’ve got a lot of immigrants of Kurdish decent, I foresee Germany being the final act. Might as well get even with Old Europe while we’re at it.
Loony, but it makes about as much sense as anything coming out of the White House.
It always counts. It always matters. I recall Ghandi saying something like you may feel like what you do makes no difference. That doesn’t relieve you of the responsibility to do it anyway.
