Do the actors have any say in what they wear ? Or is it simply they are given a set of clothes. Would a big name actor get a choice of what to wear , say pick from 3 outfits that are similar? For example a blue or black or dark brown suit for a man?
BTW I am talking about modern clothes, not a costume like Game of Thrones or Star Wars / Star Trek or Sci Fi .
They do have some say, but not much. Characters are dressed to define their personality, not the actor’s personality, so they trust the Wardrobe Dept to know how to do that, appropriate for the actor’s body type and colouring etc. But, depending on their status, they might have ideas and suggestions that may be taken seriously.
For example, most of David Tennant’s wardrobe for Doctor Who was decided from many fittings and tests with the Director and Wardrobe having their ideas, but David did ask specifically to have sneakers. I believe the story goes that they were what he was already wearing at one of the first fittings, and they looked so good to him, that he asked to keep them as part of the ensemble.
