Warlords of Draenor: WoW General Discussion thread 10/13/2014

5 months and 2 weeks of farming Serpent Shrine Cavern, and I finally got Lady Vashj to drop the egg for the coilfang stalker. I now have Tito as a reward for completing that achievement

Grats Zyanthia!

Still no Headless Horseman’s Mount for me - though I only have one 90, I know it’s not real likely that I’ll get one, I can always hope. I have gotten 4 Squashlings so far, and 3 magic brooms, and one Headless Horseman’s helm. But no mount.

I’ve been trying to farm the Rivendare’s Deathcharger mount from Stratholm lately as well, doing 6 or 7 runs per day for the last week or so. No luck yet, though I’ve gotten tons and tons of loot to sell in the Auction House from all the runs. I’ve just passed 20,000 gold. That’s the most I think I’ve ever had at one time.

I’m up to 11 90s a day now, since I remembered an Alliance alt on another domain. Had to figure out how to play arcane mage post-6.02, but it appears it hadn’t changed much, other than removing the more finicky elements of the spec (like the mastery dependence between keeping maximum mana and doing maximum damage).

So, apparently, Blizz succeeded in simplifying arcane mage enough that even I can plan it moderately well.

Anyway, I’m using an addon called Rarity that computes your cumulative chance to have looted rare items over repeated attempts. At last check, I’ve had 68 Headless Horseman kills with no drop, for cumulative odds of about 28%. That means nothing, I suppose, other than when that percentage goes up (by dint of trying over and over), it’s pretty good RNG mockery.

“Haha, you loser, you’ve killed the bosses in VoA 300 times… your odds of having looted the black war mammoth are over 90%… lol on you since you still haven’t got it!”

The RNG is very spiteful that way.

(BTW, this Wow Insider page discusses the repeated drop odds calculation and has a calculator for it. Pretty good if you want a feel for this meaningless but amusing calculation.)

As near as I can figure, the rotation is still: 1-1-1-1-2 (or 3 if Arcane Missile is not available)-repeat. You can throw PoM and AP in there every three minutes or so.

Well, by and large, arcane was pretty much always a three-finger drill. But the complexities was stuff like weaving in mana gem usage and the other tricks to keep mana above 90% for maximum mastery-enhanced damage. And also standing ON TOP OF YOUR rune of power, because otherwise you’d get practically no mana regen at all.

Now, Rune of power is a flat 15% spell damage buff and has a far larger area of effect, and there’s no such thing as a mana gem. But since mana levels don’t affect damage output any more, the only real risk is just OOMing. Oh, and losing the self-heal from a glyphed rune of power. Makes soloing much more exciting. :dubious:

And it’s Tuesday, again.

I’m in the mood to smack the Headless Horseman around!

Where does one trade in candy for teh kittehs!? (thanks for the heads up on them)!

This is the first time I’ve ever spent putting time into a world event. Ran around Azeroth collecting candy and getting some achievements (why yes, I did collect candy from every single bucket). Have been doing one or two HH’s a day, as a lot of my game play in anticipation for WoD has just been kind of random rep grinds. Spent some time on Timeless Isle yesterday and got an ominous flame pet, which was a nice treat.

Today I start the Dwarves in the argent tournament. I already have the currency to buy the pet when in 5 days when I get the 25 marks needed. I’m going to have to do the same thing on the horde side, and I have a question. If I do a faction change, will it swap the argent tournament folks so all I have to do is save up the currency to buy the horde pets?

It…gets a bit weird(and generally buggy), it is supposed to reset all your progress and make you start over. When I did a faction change not long ago all the quest progress and The Silver Covenant reputation was indeed reset, but I still had access to all the vendors(or their Alliance equivalent) I had previously unlocked.

Servers are still down, now expected up around 4 PM Pacific. Wondering if they’d extend the Horseman event to make up for the missed time? Not sure if I’ll be able to get my runs in today…:frowning:

Chub in the Undercity courtyard, or Dorothy somewhere in Elwynn Forest. (Can you tell I play Horde? :D) They will be labeled Candy and Toy Vendor.

Today’s patch 6.0.3, so not surprising it’s taking longer.

Last night was a good night. I’m on a low-population server and I play late at night, so I braced myself for a long night of /1 spamming to finish The Masquerade achievement. Tried searching for a group, but the single one I found was unresponsive. Then, out of nowhere, some guy started zone-yells:

FREE MASQUERADE ACHIEVEMENT
FREE MASQUERADE ACHIEVEMENT
FREE MASQUERADE ACHIEVEMENT

I found him faster than the Horde abandons graveyards in AV. Two minutes later, I had not only The Masquerade done, but also the meta Hallow’s End achievement AND the It’s Over Nine Thousand achievement. YAY!

Still no HH mount, although some bastard in my group did get it.

More specifically in the case of the Alliance vendor, just outside the Stormwind city gates. Not on the side with the wickerman, but the other side of the road, among the questgivers. Little girl wearing a witch’s hat, but sometimes puts on a mask (e.g., a tiki mask).

Great, I’m not even used to 6.02 yet.

Nice, grats!

I’m thinking about setting up a free wanding service on my DK that did most of the trick-or-treating, just as a nice guy. I guess it depends on how nice I feel.

That’s happened to me too, and it’s one of the things that may make me feel not so nice. :frowning:

WOOHOO! finally got the Headless Horseman’s Mount after years of trying. Better yet, it dropped for the first toon I rolled…and part of my my SDMB namesake…Oakbrow.

Grats!

I gave up trying to play today. I don’t know if I was having some kind of network issue or what. My framerate was fine, for the most part, staying in the general ranges where I’m used to seeing it in different areas. But movement was just painful, like I had some regularly-pulsing lag going on.

Whatever it was, it wasn’t happening before this patch.

I noticed that too, when I was trying to play last night. When the servers first came back online, things seemed fine. A couple of hours later when I came online to play, it was just painful and choppy.

Now they’re doing a round of rolling restarts, hopefully that’ll help.

Extreme congratulations are in order!

EXTREME CONGRATULATIONS!!

In your place, I think my greatest emotion would be relief that I don’t have to queue for that fight over and over and over any more, plus joy at the uber eliteness of that mount.

The SDMB is a good luck charm. I knew it.

Likewise, but it was momentary a couple of days ago.

I had this weird glitch in my last HH fight of the night. The queue popped but no one could enter the instance. Stuck on loading screen with no progress on loading bar.

I had to exit and restart WoW several times before it worked, but only my toon (DPS) and the healer could get in. So the group was a bust. Had to drop group and requeue, but that group worked (after losing another 15 minutes in queue).

Blizzard-quality software. I guess we can be grateful Blizz employs those developers so they aren’t out there writing software for stuff that really matters, like banking or medical equipment.

Glad to know it wasn’t just me. The new character models are the only thing that should be giving my Mac trouble in Vanilla - Pandaria zones (I already know that I’m going to have to switch to my Windows laptop for Draenor). But I logged in my little-played-since-Cata orc warlock, and she spent most of her time last night in Hellfire Peninsula (long enough to grab the candy buckets in Thrallmar and Falconsomethingsomething), then hit UC long enough to grab the bonfire buff before heading to Silvermoon City/Eversong/Ghostlands, where she was surround almost entirely by blood elves, who are not using new models yet. Plus, turning off new models didn’t help at all.
I disabled all of my addons, and still had trouble. So I just decided the problem was either in the network, or at Blizzard’s end.

Well a second Horseman’s Sinister Slicer did drop for my monk Monday, so now she has a bad-ass glowing pair of them. Thank Og Blizzard didn’t decide to make them “You can only equip one instance of these items” as they did for the rings he drops. But equipping the second one did get her gear level to 510, so she could queue for a Blackrock Spire run.

I’ve gotten the plate helm for one of my plate wearers; it would be nice if I could get it for the others too (level 540 items are nothing to sneeze at). I have to transmog it though, it’s bizarre-looking enough during the Hallow’s End event times, it’ll look even more out-of-place afterwards.
