Warlords of Draenor: WoW General Discussion thread 10/13/2014

I was so happy that AdiBags was updated yesterday. I’m so used to having one, big, organized bag that having to do without it meant I almost literally could not find anything in my bags or my bank. I did discover, however, that there is no obvious way to activate/purchase the Reagents Tab with AdiBags active. So I had to disable the addon, reload the UI, purchase the reagent tab, and then reload the addon. Annoying, but at least its only a one-time thing per toon.

Yup. The reagents tab effectively gave me an extra 28 spaces in my bank, above and beyond what was freed up just by shuffling the reagents. It allowed me to replace my Enchanting Bag with the 28-slot regular bag I had waiting for patch day.

And the extra Void Storage tab freed up a lot of space. I had the last two full PvP sets taking up space in my paladin’s bank because her void storage was full.

Ooo, I’m glad I can get the sparklies back. I actually like the outlines on my targets, but they didn’t do much to make herbs apparent. I also pointed out an issue in the beta, specifically with the Stormwind fishing daily, “Diggin’ for Worms”. For that quest, you have to … dig up a worm … and then use it for bait. The problem is, there is no visible object to click on. Without the sparklies, there’s nothing to see, and the glow effect wasn’t visible at all. Because the “object” is underground. The only way I was able to complete that quest in beta was by standing in the general vicinity of a spot where I knew a worm spawned, and waving my cursor around until I got the “use” cursor. I wonder if they did anything about that.

I did the UBRS dungeon today. Not really worth a 30 minute queue time. I did get loot from the final boss, ilvl550 blue chest armor, stats pretty close to what I was wearing, but it looks kinda cool.

Also did some BGs. Ouch. Been too long since I did that on the mage, my gear is about a full season behind, and it showed. Kept getting PWNed by this shadow priest, until late in the game when he was getting smacked around by a DK, so I joined in to get the killshot on him. Cheap, yet satisfying.

I accidentally bumped the old thread when I posted about my Raven Lord mount the other day. Whoopsie!

Today I got mount #108, with the Silver Covenant Hippogryff joining the herd.

Someone on my server has the mount you get for collecting 250 - it is quite flashy! Emerald phoenix something-or-other.

I’m still getting used to the new rotations, and I haven’t done any gear optimization since Ask Mr. Robot’s new addon seems to be mortally allergic to my bank (faints dead away when I open my bank).

Still, the toons that had decent DPS still seem to, at least as far as I can tell from running 10x Headless Horseman runs per day.

My frost DK’s DPS seems to have gone up sharply for no apparent reason, considering so much didn’t change. I can roll pretty close to the same rotation as before, but it seems to work so much better now. Go figure.

My main (hunter) rotation has simplified so much I almost don’t know what to do with most of my time. Before, there always seemed to be something I could do. Now, it’s a bit of a snap decision whether I want another Steady Shot or whether I could burn a couple of Aimed Shots. Much less button-mashing than before. I guess that would be a good thing if I hadn’t come up as a hunter seriously expecting button-mashing. I better find a “suggested next shot” addon that works with 6.02, because I feel like my rotation is sub-par. (Even if my DPS is still pretty good.)

Sigh. Just when I was starting to get back into playing my fire mage, Blizzard nerfs Fire damage 20% across the board.

I’m seriously starting to think they just don’t want people playing that spec.

I usually play WOW in the mornings (after I drop my kids off at school) and it’s funny how Tuesday always sneaks up on me!

It always makes me think, “They have to take the game offline for half a day? Is this REALLY necessary?” Or is it some sort of cost-savings thing they do?

I was going to semi blow off Hallow’s End this year, since I have (thought I have, actually) all the goodies from previous years except for the stupid mount… that’s all I was planning on doing (10x Headless Horseman runs per day)

But dammit, they added new undead kitties as combat pets. 150 tricky treats each. So I guess I’ll be doing the other dailies and trick-or-treating on a couple of toons to get them.

Ah well, I can’t complain. They added SOMETHING, rather than just scaling up pre-existing crap (like Brewfest was).

I’m still remembering POM Pyro mages in PVP, back in vanilla. The “Three-minute wonder.” Hide until Presence of Mind comes off cooldown and ambush some poor sucka. One-shot most players, if you were geared well enough.

The part of me remembering that believes you can’t nerf fire mages enough.

The comments on Cranius’ “Big Blue Dress” video include some discussion on that POM Pyro build

My human paladin finally hit Exalted with Emperor Shaohao … now she just needs another 28k coins for the mount

My dwarf paladin dinged 89 while hitting all of the EK/Kalimdor candy buckets, and earned 154 Tricky Treats in the process, so she picked up one of the new kitty pets. I’ll run my 82 warlock around to the buckets to pick up the other new pet. Though Kalimdor is going to be a bitch for her - she leveled to 60 entirely in EK, so has very few Kalimdor flight points. Actually, she may be missing some EK FPs as well, because with all the heirlooms she’s wearing she skipped a lot of content.

Thanks for the heads-up about the undead kitties. I was going to just focus on my remaining Halloween achievements and the mount, but I wound up gathering enough treats last night to get Widget the Departed, which got me the Littlest Pet Shop achievement.

Grats! Happy to help.

I don’t have the time weekday eves to grind through 10 Headless Horseman wait times and then go trick-or-treating, so I’ll let that wait for the weekend. I have about 50 treats on each of the two toons (that will be doing the kitty shopping) so far, so I figure 100 treats from trick-or-treat buckets is realistically achievable. Good thing, too; firefighting in Brill is getting less reliable as toons get tired of doing it, and the long-range travel involved in dousing the opposing wickerman is boring and time-consuming when I don’t have enough time as it is.

Another thanks for the heads up on the undead kitties. I used the tricky treat hunt to get my Belf Pally up to level 90 and acquire Widget. I’ll be leveling another alt while earning enough to get Birmin.

I’ve been doing the Hallow’s routine 9 years now on multiple alts and still don’t have the horseman’s mount! So instancing every day on all qualified toons.

Ditto. And I currently have 11 90s, yet I have no Horseman’s Mount or the Xmas Ram.

ETA: Sorry, I have 12 90s. <shakes fist at sky> Curses!

I Have seven level 90s, and ran all of them through the Headless Horseman daily today. Whiile my monk did get the Headless Horseman’s slicer in her loot-filled pumpkin (1H sword with Agility and Stamina), the stupid ring that he drops every time was the wrong one for whatever class was currently running the dungeon. The INT or AGI ring dropped while running my DKs, Warrior and Paladin, the INT or STR ring for my monk and hunter, and the STR ring for my Mage. Frustrating.

At this point in the evening, I’m up to 8/10 90s done, 9th in queue… and the 10th maybe out of luck?

This tenth toon was actually supposed to be the 9th (I run through the 90s from top to bottom on the character selection list, cuz you gotta do 'em in some order, and it’s easier to remember this way).

I queued him for HH and after about 20 seconds the queue status changes to “queue paused”

WTF? I didn’t know a queue could pause. Certainly, there was no good reason for it to pause; I wasn’t doing any instanced or phased crap, or any pet battles. Just hanging around waiting.

Wouldn’t ever get unpaused, or stay unpaused even if I tried some workarounds from the Blizz forums.

So I logged off him and jumped onto toon #10. Her queue is progressing at this moment. We’ll see if it continues to do so.

“Queue paused”. Seriously, Blizz, WHISKEY TANGO FOXTROT Over?

The WTF’ery continued into the evening, alas.

Toon #10 was in LFD queue for HH for over an hour, or more than twice as long as the LFD time estimate. The queue didn’t say it was paused; it kept perfectly good time and a ridiculously false estimate of when I’d get into the instance. Like, “You’ve been on queue 45 minutes. Estimated time to get into the instance: 10 minutes.”

So, even if the queue wasn’t obviously paused, it wasn’t going anywhere. So I gave up after that fruitless hour and only got 8 HH runs for the day. That isn’t gonna help my odds.

This is an issue that’s been acknowledged by blues in Blizz fora, but with no known ETRO or fix action. Workarounds that don’t really work around, but no fix. In other words, typical Blizzard.

Oh well, at least I did get the Headless Horseman’s Mount several years ago, so I’m more fortunate than some others on this thread in that regard.

I could do without any more Sinister Squashlings though. I’ve already got the maximum of 3, and I feel bad every time I drag the latest one out of my bags and have to enter DELETE in the pop-up warning box.

Now that I know that the Headless Horseman’s Slicer is a possible drop, I’ll have to make sure that my Monk runs it every day to see if she can get another one to drop. A second one did drop for me yesterday – but for my Mage, which meant it was useless and all I could do was vend it (wish they were account-bound rather than soulbound).

The Queue paused issue is a known issue that’s being investigated.

MIght just be a coincidence, but everytime the queue’s paused for me using a hearthstone or portal has restarted it and let me in within a couple of minutes (average wait time is about 5 mins on the server I’m on). I assuming it’s something to do with the loading screen reloading the queue.

Those are among the workarounds that didn’t work around, in my experience (and that of others in forum).

I suspect most of the workarounds are placebos and the queue gets unstuck when it gets unstuck. And in my case last night, they never did.
