Warlords of Draenor: WoW General Discussion thread 10/13/2014

I never kept such detailed statistics, but my outcomes are generally like yours… I think all 11 of my 90s running the event this year wound up with a ring, and anyone that could use the helm (warr, frost DK, ret pally) or the sword (one rogue, yaaay) got those. Lot of the unusable ones got either DE’d (I have 4 chanters in that 11) or vendored.

The Rarity addon I’m running tells me I’ve had 135 shots at HH. (Since this is based on in-game statistics, this probably includes last year as well.)

Zero horses. But I did see one get looted by another party member one of those runs, so I know it can happen. Besides Oakminster’s good luck.

HH is a stingy jerkface bastard. I walked away with his agi ring, but no mount, and I never saw the slicer.

The RNG gods may be trying to atone for it, though. I’ve been farming Skyshards and Guo Lai chest keys, and since Friday I’ve gotten about 60 keys and 5 Skyshards. The droprate will probably plummet now that I’ve mentioned it, but at least it’s something. I got the 6 cooking recipes and only need the stupid Sapphire Cub design.

BTW, as a non-raider, I have to say I’m super thankful for the change in 6.0 to use Lesser Charms of Good Fortune to upgrade gear. I had about 5000 of them. I max-upgraded everything, and my ilevel got bumped by about 20 to 542. It’s a very noticeable change – I tear through those Mogu now.

Holy crap. Heirlooms. The warlock I rolled back in 2009 and abandoned at level 12, then got around to revisiting late in MoP is wearing the heirloom hat, shoulders, chest, and cloak. I’ve also been taking advantage of XP buffs from the Darkmoon Faire and Hallow’s End Wickerman.

She’s going to hit level 85 before she’s even halfway through Vashj’ir! Yay, she’ gets to almost completely skip the Cataclysm! (though, actually, I’m going to miss doing Deepholm again. I love that zone).

Roleplaying FTW!

My warlock’s DMF XP buff was about to wear off, so I flew her back to Ironforge, intending to talk to the mage to teleport her to the DMF so that she could ride the carousel and renew the XP buff.

No sooner did I arrive in Ironforge, when I got a whisper from another player:

“Where is the brewer?”

I didn’t know WTF the question was about, but after a couple whispers and the mention of “IPA”, I realized this other player had just gotten the Ironforge cooking daily that requires going to Kharanos and running back to IF with a keg of beer. And he had no idea what he was supposed to do.

So I told him what to do, and then added, “I’m just about to do the same quest.” So we flew to Kharonos together, and I led him to the beer keg, and said, “Follow me!”

Well, having no idea what he was doing, he failed to follow me. So, standing there next to the questgiver (having completed the quest myself), I walked this noob through it, and waited until he finally showed up and completed it for himself.

That’s when it turned out that he was supposed to be playing with a friend. His friend was in Elwynn Forest. At this point, I asked this player, “New to the game?” Yes, he was. So I went out of the way to lead him to the Deeprun Tram, and escorted him to Stormwind City. From there, I took him to Goldshire, where his friend was waiting.

His friend was AFK. We found the friend’s toon standing in front of the Lion’s Pride Inn, but he was just standing there, not responding to anything.’’

So, I ended up roleplaying. And not even on a RP server. It turns out that this new player was some 14-year-old kid, playing a warlock as his first toon, and he happened to bump into me on my own warlock.

He asked my warlock if she had a wand he could use. So, in character, I said, “No, I don’t. But my paladin friend can make one for you! Let me go get her!”

I emoted, /farewell at this kid, and logged out. Then I logged in my paladin, made my way to Goldshire, and greeted this kid. I told him (as a paladin) that my warlock friend had told me that he needed a wand. My paladin is an enchanter, and can make low-level wands. So my paladin greeted the kid, and RP-ed. “I must travel to Stormwind to purchase the necessary materials”.

While I was doing this, my paladin received several comments from onlookers, to the effect of, “It’s so cool that you’re helping newbies!”

So I made a show of mounting up on my flying mount, saying, “Wait here! I will return with a wand for you!”

I flew to Stormwind, purchased the insanely cheap materials, and created a wand for this lowbie dwarf warlock. Flew back to Goldshire, located him, and passed him the wand (roleplaying the entire transaction). He was so incredibly grateful!

Then I told him, “And now, because I am old and decrepit, it’s bedtime for me. Good luck with your adventures!”

I honestly hope that I gave some kid a happy welcome to the game

That is adorable. Good on you.

Yeah, awesome Rik!

I hope that kid isn’t too heartbroken when he or she finds out that a lot of players (sometimes most of 'em) players won’t be that helpful, or even slightly understanding.

Yeah, I like to borrow trouble. I’m a natural pessimist.

Some thoughts on the 90-boost that you can either buy or get with the pre-order of WoD…

You get spec-appropriate gear of quite good ilvl in all slots. Any gear your toon had before the boost is mailed to you. You also get all of your bag slots filled with embersilk bags.

You start with very few abilities. As you progress through the Blasted Lands Iron Horde quests, you get those handed back to you bit by bit. When you finish the pre-WoD questline, you get all of your abilities and talents unlocked.

If the toon you boosted was over lvl 60, your tradeskills are boosted to 600. If the toon was below lvl 60, they don’t, BUT your gathering skill has no relation to what you can gather. At 1 Mining, you can mine (so far as I’ve tried) mithril or thorium. I haven’t gone to BC, Wrath, Cata or Pandaria areas yet to see if that hold for higher ores. You only get the usual 1 point rise in skill per mining/picking/skinning, though.

They kitted my monk out with dual-wield weapons rather than the staff/polearm I’ve always used when I’ve leveled a monk to 90 manually. That kind of surprised me, but it works.

I’ve kind of been just noodling around Vanilla Azeroth waiting for WoD to release, knocking out achievements, etc. I messed up Dire Maul but good last night. Everything was fine until I got to the Gordok wing. I froze the one guard I was supposed to kill and then killed Gordok before the Observer, which meant the Observer turned green and I couldn’t kill him at all. I’m going to try again tonight and remember not to do stupid things.

It does. I boosted my orc rogue from level 30-something, so he didn’t get the profession boost. He could still mine (but not skin) in Pandaria. And you don’t get ore, you get fragments that can be combined into ore.

There was one upside to not getting the prof boost, though. He had to go back and level his Mining and Skinning “manually”, and selling all that crap on the AH made him filthy rich (relatively speaking): 4 days /played, 20,000 gold. Not all of that gold was from ore and leather, but still.

Yeah, that slipped my mind when I was writing. 10 fragments for one piece of ore.

I now have two 90s!!

My holy priest finally clawed her way to 90 yesterday. I had a full set of Timeless waiting for her, except for a necklace, and she about doubled her iLvl in 5 minutes.

It’s fun to play her again! I even joined LFR and played healer again for the first time since coming back to WOW it was not a fail. No deaths!

On the other hand, because my two 90s started life on different servers many years ago, they are both tailor/enchanters. Which is silly. So I switched one of them over to Herbalist / Skinner. Probably take a little while to get those up to level.

A few laps around Timeless Isle had my skinning level up to 100 or so.

I’ve got a 90 boost that I haven’t used yet, and I’m torn between boosting my ancient, untouched since Vanilla, level 60 prot warrior OR boosting a level 10 hunter of the opposite faction. I’ve always played Alliance and never had a Horde, which are very outnumbered on our server.

And of COURSE my graphics card gives up the ghost one week before WoD drops…

Being a newbie in WoW, I am sure he discovered that part long before he found Rik.

Sorry to hear it, jayjay, and congrats, Sarabellum1976.

Up to 7 Skyshards, all in less than a week. It boggles that I started Timeless Isle over a year ago but I’m closer to the Alani drop than I am the Shaohao rep or Huolon mounts.

Speaking of Shaohao rep, my paladin hit Exalted a few weeks ago, and last night she finally hit 100,000 Timeless coins and bought the fancy mount!

Not that I’m going to use it much. I hate the way those sky serpents handle.

Gosh, those pre made groups are handy! I’ve been using them to knock out old achievements left and right!

Finally got a Share the Love group together (Red Proto Drake! Yes!) AND found a worthwhile Cataclysm Heroic achievement group and did about 20 achievements together. Good stuff.

Well, it turns out my mobo has onboard graphics as well (Radeon 2100) so I can actually play the game as it currently stands. I don’t think it’s going to handle WoD, though, so we still need to get a new card. At least I won’t go into total internet withdrawal…

All my HH RNG luck was apparently sunk into Skyshard drops, because I got my last 3 within 5 hours on Friday night.

My co-worker who also plays is taking off Thursday and/or Friday. I can’t, those are my busiest days. Sigh.

Finished off another meta (Ulduar 10) and Rusted Proto Drake joins the herd! That makes 115, I think.

I should probably be frantically trying to level my 81 warlock to 90 this week but I seem to have kind of lost interested in playing that toon. I’ve been enjoying playing my priest again, and running her around Timeless Isle skinning everything in sight.

And I still haven’t used my 90 boost. I’m torn between leveling my 60 prot warrior and fully exploring how bad a tank I am, or using it on my level 10 hunter, though I’d have to start from scratch on professions and such if I did that.

I should try grinding that for a while. I have 3 saved up from the last two years of leveling 11 90s through Pandaria, and I’d really like to get a shot at Alani. Alas, with the new xpac going live, I probably won’t take the time until after I’ve played out the new content at least on my mains.

Man, I can’t even picture taking time off to play a game. Different strokes, I guess.

Speaking of WoD, I overlooked a temporarily expensive change after 6.02 dropped. With the guild rework, many guild perks vanished. One of them is the guild discount at vendors.

Buying three Orbs of Mystery to build a Depleted-Kyparium Rocket cost me 6k more gold than I originally counted on, based on losing the 10% guild discount. I had the money before 6.02 dropped, but I didn’t think it through and didn’t prioritize accordingly. :smack:

Hey, guys, I haven’t played since MoP released, but I’m thinking of giving this another run for its money. Do you know how much, if any, game time comes with the purchase of Warlords? i.e., will I need to buy a game card along with the game?
