Warning! Some threads are scrambled! Don't panic!

I’ve been to 3 Pit threads so far, and two of them (the tshirts/farley stuff) have had the thread scrambled so that the OP doesn’t appear until halfway through the thread. It doesn’t have the original timestamp on it anymore, either, so both threads come across as very peculiar, to say the least. “What ARE these people talking about?” Is it something to do with when the last post was, like if it came during a certain stage of the vB changeover?

Also, the Catfight Pit thread now has Farley’s “Notthemama si MY name” duplicate-post attack come AFTER my rebuttal, which is annoying. Makes ME look like the troll, and makes HER look, if not actually clever, at least not at a loss for words.

After all the discussion about how we aren’t allowed to edit posts because our words have to stand as is, this is very scary. :frowning:

I know it’s not your fault, just wanted somebody to know what’s going on.

Also, in the Catfight thread, I seem to recall that the joking about Coosa and Anti Pro being my sock puppets came in a different order. I think my big post got put later in the thread, because now what they’re saying before me doesn’t make a whole lot of sense. Also casdave’s joking “good post” remark doesn’t make sense. For what, a one-line remark?

Actually hoping this is just the Message Board gods taking it out on me, not everybody…

Notthemama, please look at the timestamps on the posts you are refering to. Chances are they’ll have a timestamp of 02-23-2029. Unfortunately I set the clock incorrectly on the server back on February 23rd. There was a window of about 1 hour when people were posting and it was catapulting them 29 years into the future. My apologies. When I realized the problem I reset the clock. The damage had already been done though.

The new vBulletin software will take those 2029 posts and move them around. In fact, all posts are now ordered by time instead of by their actual posting order to the thread. I’ve set the clock incorrectly more than once. Never as aggregiously as a 29 year mistake but it’s been off by a full 24 hours before as well. Post order is going to be strange in some older threads. There is little we can do about it except understand that that is the case.

** Notthemama ** thanks for telling me before I get over there about the BBQ pit confusion. I was SO shocked that you would compare ‘farley’ to that wonderful dog ‘Farley’, who died after saving Elizabeth in ‘For Better Or Worse’. Why would you want to smear a hero’s name? You * know I hate to criticize * but a ‘farley’ comparison shopping to ‘fruitcake’ would have been more apt…just an opinion, and hardly humble!

I’ve also noticed that some threads in the archives have the posts cutoff before the end of the post (if you get my drift). That might need some research.

Um, no, sorry, JDavis, but that’s not it. Both the threads I’m talking about have posts scrambled in the middle of them; the OPs come in the middle of the thread with dates like 4/16 or 4/28 on them. Also, in both threads, rebuttals come before the accusations. Are you saying this is going to happen in a LOT of threads? These aren’t “old” threads; they were active Friday afternoon just before the shutdown.

If you weren’t participating in the discussions, you might not notice, but you might wonder at all the jokes that didn’t make any sense. “Who is he talking to?” Like that.

Am I correct in assuming, then, that there’s no way to fix this? It’ll just have to stand as is? :frowning: Bummer. Now I look like an idiot in 2 threads. MPSIMS just came back up; time to go see if I look like an idiot in the “Why not feed the trolls thread?”,too. ::: sigh :::: “…the price of progress…”

Just a WAG on my part, but here’s what I bet happened:

  1. Problem child/troll/ made a post. Probably several bad posts.

  2. We banned the poster.

When we ban someone, we also have the option to remove all their posts from the board with one command.

  1. Which was issued.

Unfortunately, this is still a little buggy . . .

3a. So the unwanted posts were removed . . .

3b. but the affected threads got a bit scrambled. . .

3c. and some threads now made no sense because of loss of continuity. (Plus, people made comments on posts that were no longer there, further confusing things.)

This is my suspicions, anyway.

Make sense? (Well, as much as anything around here does, anyway.)
