Mock hair bands all you want, but for those of us who were teenagers at just the right time, Warrant was one of the greats.

I saw Warrant 2-3 years ago, and it was one of the best concerts ever. They really rocked it out, and the audience was singing it right back to them.

His Wikipedia says:

Is this some kind of joke? I cannot find any other references to this online except hits for that Wikipedia page or versions of it.

Aw, man. Warrant kicked all kinds of ass. Classic glam bands are underrated these days.

Oooof. I love “Cherry Pie”, but that story brings to mind the “lines you wouldn’t want in your obituary thread” - “Found dead at a Comfort Inn” would have to be near the top of my list.

Yet another bastion of 80’s rock (and my childhood/adolescence) dies way too soon.

Never would have guessed that he wouldn’t outlive Steven Tyler…or Keith Richards.

Wow…I mean…wow…

I loved Stevie Ray Vaughn, and I remember hearing that he was dead, and how that made me feel. But I never saw Stevie live.

But I saw Warrant live about 10 years ago. And as a child of the 80’s I grew up on Warrant. Yes, “Cherry Pie” and “Big Talk” and “Uncle Tom’s Cabin.” And now…Jani is dead. If you had told me a year ago that Jani was still alive I would have been surprised. But now that he’s dead…

I feel old. And I don’t like it.

RIP Jani Lane. And thank you for my youth.

Aw, man. :frowning:

Warrant were never at the top of the glam pyramid, and there’s even an argument to be made that this was for good reason. But I liked them just fine, bought all their records, and saw them when they toured- they put on a pretty damn good show in my teenage eyes.

Jani had his problems, but last I heard he was getting past them, singing with Great White, and even joining his old mates for a song or two.

It’s sad. I’m sad.

RIP, Jani. :frowning:

Of course I saw the news. Not sure what to say - I am not a Hair Metal guy, even though that genre happened right when I was in college. I remember humming the chorus of Down Boys to myself a couple of times and feeling slimy about watching that Cherry Pie video - she’s hot! but that video is just wrong-headed.

I did trade emails with my friend who was in an unsigned pop-metal band at the time who traveled in the same circles with Jani, has friends who have worked with him and who are on the same tour circuit now - part of Dokken’s, Ratt’s touring band, etc. The basic point is that it must be really hard to get stuck into a Hair Metal Holding Pattern™ - wrapping your brain around having Groupies n’ Blow and Platinum Albums (oh my!) and now playing the local hair metal bar and Taking Care of Business every night…I could see myself drinking too much in a hotel room…

I was a huge fan when I was a teenager. I saw them open for Poison on my fifteenth birthday, in October 1990; they were probably at their peak at the time.

What’s really weird is that I just spoke to Erik Turner (also of Warrant) a couple of weeks ago when he called the radio station during my show. Someone else had set up an interview with him but they screwed up on the time zone difference. I hadn’t thought about the band in years before that.

You guys were scooped by about 12 hours on this.

I’ll report to a mod, see if we can get the threads merged.

Done. And I expanded the thread title.

Huh. That’s too bad.

I do have to say, I’m pretty struck by how much he looked like Bret Michaels, at least in that picture on TMZ. Another huh for the day, I guess.
