Fucking cigarettes.
Do you think he’ll be hanging out in Denver now…?
This is the first I’ve heard. Figures I would learn it on the Dope.
Damn. Good man gone. Damn.
One of the best shows I ever saw was Zevon at the Chestnut Cabaret in Philadelphia, about 1988, with Timothy B. Schmidt of the Eagles and a fabulous slide guitarist whose name I forgot as sidemen We were right against the stage, and yelling up suggestions which he would play.
R.I.P. Warren
I may have said this in another thread. I’d gotten to the point where I really thought he’d…well, maybe not recover, but go into remission and have another few years. When he made the announcement, he said, “The survival rate for what I have is zero”, but recently I’d started thinking, “Well, maybe doctors haven’t seen a large enough sample.” Because it was supposed to be a very rare form of you-know-what.
Please forgive any typos or incoherence. I’m still numb.
Can I get a hug? Please?
I hate to ask, but does anyone have a link?
Dammit, dammit, dammit.
Dammit.
Okay, I’m a dumb ass. Never said I wasn’t. I’m grieving, OK?
and thanks jjimm
I wonder who was with him. Not that it makes any difference, but I’m just picturing Jordan going, “Hey, dad…Dad? DAD?!”
Shit.
But it is nice that he lived long enough to see his last album released.
At least I knew it was coming. I saw many memorable shows from this man. Back when all the other kids were listening to The Who and Led Zeppelin, we would be cruising around listening to Lawyers, Guns & Money or I’ll Sleep When I’m Dead.
He will be missed.
Crap.
Why is this in The Pit?
So we can curse.
I think Green Bean put it in here because it’s cigarettes that caused his death.
Fucking cigarettes just killed my godmother/aunt as well and are working on my uncle as well. Fuckers.
According to this article, he died of a rare form of cancer more usually related to asbestos inhalation.
Not saying cigs aren’t bad for one, just that they might not actually have been the direct cause here.
I heard about the cancer when I was working on my goddamn painting job this summer and his cover of “Knockin’ On Heaven’s Door” was making the pre-release rounds.
Damn, it’s a shame.
Yes, we knew it was coming, but it still hurts. I guess I saw Warren perform half a dozen times, mostly solo - just him, his piano and an accoustic guitar. He was always awesome. Just as witty and sardonic in his stage patter as he was with his lyrics.
Damn shame it took news of his impending demise for him to have an album chart the way all his other albums should have.
Rest in peace, Warren.
