Mines probably Werewolves of London.
For me it’s a toss up between “Lawyers Guns and Money” and “Leave My Monkey Alone”.
Lately it has been Roland the Headless Thompson Gunner.
Mohammed’s Radio. Or Desperados Under the Eaves. Or Carmelita.
Please don’t make me choose.
Toss up, but here are some favorites:
Accidentally like a martyr
Mohammad’s Radio
Carmelita
Veracruz
(yeah, I can’t pick either. These four are always my top picks, but mostly I’ll listen to anything of his)
Hard to choose, but if forced I’d say Mr. Bad Example, just because if you couldn’t understand the lyrics it sounds like a happy kid-friendly song.
Everything posted in the thread so far is an excellent choice. Mine is probably one of those…or Poor Poor Pitiful Me…or Gorilla You’re a Desperado, or maybe Excitable Boy.
But it’s very definitely one of them.
Tenderness on the Block and Carmelita.
Carmelita? Lawyers Guns and Money? I Was in the House When the House Burned Down? Mr. Bad Example? Piano Fighter?
Um… it’s definitely by Warren Zevon. Unless it’s the Hindu Love Gods cover of Raspberry Beret. Or his cover of Cadillac Ranch. Or Battleship Chains. Crap.
Too many great songs to pick one. Shortly after his death, his son Jordan authorized free distribution of his concert recordings - the internet live music archive has around 100 Warren Zevon shows recorded between 1976 and 2001 available for free download or streaming.
Little old lady got mutilated late last nigh is the best single line in a song ever. Still, the song that is so powerfully emotional that I never listen to because it makes me bawl like a baby is Keep Me In Your Heart.
What about favorite album then? Excitable boy for me.
Werewolves, Lawyers, Roland are my faves. I’m most likely to hear Werewolves because the Dead liked to play it, and I like to play the Dead.
Until a couple of days ago, I’d never heard “Detox Mansion”.
Good stuff.
Although my knowledge of Warren Zevon songs is very limited, I really like “Excitable Boy.”
Although my screen name would suggest otherwise, it’s probably “Desperados Under the Eaves”…or “Roland the Headless Thompson Gunner”…or “Play it All Night Long”…or “Lawyers, Guns and Money.” Depends on the day and my mood.
Sorry, I meant to say “Frank and Jesse James.”
I like nearly everything he did, but my favorite has to be “Werewolves of London”.
Right now off the top of my head, “Model Citizen.” Ask me again tomorrow and I may have a different answer.
I’ll go with “Lawyers, Guns and Money.” I also considered “Poor Poor Pitiful Me,” but the former’s main riff is what has been lodged in my head since I first saw the thread title.
Too hard! My favorite song is probably on “Excitable Boy,” but my favorite album is “Sentimental Hygiene.” Either “Boom Boom Mancini” or “The Factory.” On both of those he out-Springsteens Springsteen!
