Warren Zevon - "the DJ"?

I’m in the midst of reading the bio written by his ex-wife Crystal. Virtually all of the women he shared more than a passing relationship with are identified, and several even speak in the book.

All but the semi-mysterious DJ from Philadelphia. There are great hints, mentioning the popularity of her show on Philadelphia radio in the 70-80’s, but not much more than that. Any local people there with an idea who this is, or where she might be now?

Yeah, this could be in GQ, and yes, I’m just nosy. Some books I read with the laptop open, Googling every other name that comes up - this is one of those books.

According to Wikipedia (fwiw) her name was Anita Gevinson, and her station was WYSP.

I read that one. If you know you’re going to die, make sure you send a few days with a talented writer to get your own story out there before your embittered ex goes and writes one. What an astonishingly self-centered piece of dreck that was. The only positive thing I can say is that it was better than Bebe Buell’s “Rebel Heart”.

Hopefully somebody will write a good book about Warren at some point.

Actually, Warren asked Crystal to write his biography. He also insisted that she pull no punches. They were on good terms when he died. As for how he came off, the sad fact is, he was an abrasive, self-centered person. And Crystal didn’t so much write the bio as compile it.

Warren’s decision has to count as worst choice of literary executor since Poe’s choice of Rufus Griswold.

If this remains the only biography of Warren Zevon, we’ll never know if this is true. My main problem is that this book showed no evidence of the poet inside the prickly shell. It is a collection of warts.
