Was bin Laden's hideout in Tora Bora ever found?

I’ve been reading Lawrence Wright’s book “The Looming Towers” (which I haven’t finished so maybe I’m getting ahead of myself).

Anyway, according to the book, when Osama bin Laden was kicked out of Sudan he took up residence in a “cave” near Tora Bora in Afghanistan. Wright says that the “cave” was not a natural shelter but was constructed using heavy machinery. Remember, bin Laden’s family was in the heavy construction business and Osama knew something about how to engineer construction projects.

The coalition invaded Afghanistan and supposedly Osama fled his hideout. Was this hideout ever found? It would seem that even if Osama wasn’t captured the coalition forces would have at least found his base of operations yet I can’t remember reading anything to that effect.

Does anyone know anything that would shed some light on this question?

The answer seems to be “yes and no.” Notice the articles linked at the bottom of the page. The NYT piece is particularly good.
