Was Captain Harry S. Truman fighting anywhere near the 369th regiment at the Meuse-Argonne Offensive in WWI? Did the Battery D of the 129th Field Artillery, 35th Division** . witness black soldiers in combat?
Not likely. Per the White House Historical Association, Truman was in Vosges and this PDF says the 369th wasn’t there until 17 October 1918. Nearly three years after the Battle of Hartmannswillerkopf.
Thanks Skywatcher. I’ve been looking for any contact Truman may have had with Black officers or commanders during WWI. I couldn’t find any.
