Of the 156 troops of the 3rd Battalion of the 24th Infantry Division, how many of he officers were Black? How many were commissioned officers ? Were the 110 convicted all officers?
3rd Battalion of the 24th Infantry Regiment, not division (the 24th Infantry Division were an entirely different unit).
There were a total 7 (or 8, by another source from 1973) commissioned officers in that unit in 1917, none of them Black. There were of course many Black NCO’s, but 25 of the best has been cherry-picked to be sent off to the one and only war-time training camp for Black officers in WW I (held starting May, 1917). Participants at that training camp would eventually be commissioned into the 92nd Infantry Division.
