Was it the *real* Ruffian

I do technical support for a pretty big national ISP. (No, not AOL, you probably haven’t heard of us cuz we don’t advertise and are dirt cheap, but we do have the largest dialup network.) I work 6 days a week, and am on the phone pretty much the entire time I’m at work. So I talk to lots of people.

The past week or so, I’ve come across a few email names that reminded me of Doper names. Like, a couple days ago I talked to a guy whose email name was tnhippy. And then there was storytlr a few days ago. And there have been similar incidences.

Today I talked to a woman in GA whose email name was Ruffian. I so much wanted to say “Hey! Are you THE Ruffian from the Boards?”

But what if she wasn’t? I’d have to explain. And my bosses would think I’m crazy. So I didn’t say anything.

But Ruffian, if you had to call your ISP for support today, hope I helped.

Ruffian lives in CA, IIRC. So unless she’s got some strange routing software…

Yeah, I thought I recalled that. But I was extra-nice to this woman, just in case.

Good call. That whole bosses thinking you’re crazy thing, and then having to explain everything, then the embarrassment, and then the flummoxing, is just overall icky. And it would’ve been the case.

'Twasn’t me, I’m afraid. (Well, maybe not afraid, but it really wasn’t.) As iampunha correctly pointed out, I’m in California, not Georgia.

But I did drive through Georgia once, about 15 years ago…

Thanks for thinking of me though. A little flattery gets you (most) anywhere! :stuck_out_tongue:
